Ok, its very hard for me to pick between DKC2 and DKC3
The only reasons I voted DKC2 are
1) its the first to pop in my head 2) It was my first game in the series 3) I play it the most often
HOWEVER,
I think DKC3 has a strong argument because in basically every single level there is a new concept introduced that the level is based around. When I get to playing DKC3, I can't stop for a looooong time. Every level is so interesting, and there is always something new, which keeps me in the game. |

I liked the graphics in 1 the best because they were very pretty and clever ^^ 2 had interesting designs but they were scarier-like ._.;; I like the pretty jungles and the beautiful underwater scenes. And I loved its music the best of all the levels were very very fun as well. |

Definitely DKC2, the best soundtrack, the best gfx, and the most challenging and fun of all. It has my fav version of captain K Rool also. |

The first DKC wasn't innovative? It had simple game mechanics, but it certainly was innovative. It didn't much feel like other games at the time. And the graphics were just superb, and still are. |

I actually liked the first one a lot. It only comes second to #2 though. |

That's actually one of the reasons why I like / enjoyed the first one the most. It wasn't incredibly innovative, just a solid, simple and amazingly fun game. You go through levels, there's bonus levels within them, that's basically it, and I liked that. |

DKC2: ARGH! DAMN IT! ~My reaction when I played on an SNES. One of the few games that I do better at on an emulator, even without savestates. Best music in the series overall, and the hardest game in the series too.
DKC3: Music is a mixed bag, with the horrendous Harbor music and the excellent Waterfall music, not to mention the REALLY annoying music in that rocket level. (Lost World level, if you're confused) Overall level designs were pretty good, but item collecting seemed a little odd. The coins I have no problem with, as they're in level and you can just grab 'em as you go. But the items you get from bosses that you have to take back to Funky or one of those damn bears... argh, it just felt like a waste of time.
My favorite's probably DKC2, though I do still enjoy all three games. It's unfortunate that the music in DKC3 was such a mixed bag (at best), and the item collection crap got added... |

haha yeah I agree with DKC3 music. What the hell were they thinking with that harbor type music in the first levels? The game itself felt rushed and half assed riding on the DK name for its success. |

How the fuck can anyone call the first DKC "crap"? That's absurd!
I give DKC a 9.5, and DKC2 a solid 10. It's my second favorite game, right after Yoshi's Island. DKC3 is a very fun game, but I'm kind of appalled by a lot of the music and the character designs. It's quite a decline in aesthetic greatness... |

Definitely, looking at this thread as an example as you can, nearly everyone who's played them has no complaints.
And like I said before, I'd rank this series up with the old Super Mario Bros / World, and Sonic the Hedgehog games. |

While I enjoyed playing all three of those games, I enjoyed DKC2 the most because of the following reasons:
(1) The first game to implement the gold DK coin and bonus coins. You had to collect all of these coins to beat the bonus world and get different message from Cranky Kong.
(2) The music especially in the Bramble, Swamp, and Beehive levels were my favorite. The highbeat dance song from the roller coaster levels was also pretty good too.
(3) The use of Dixie Kong's hair to float to certain platforms to get hard-to-reach DK coins and bonus coins. Although required in most areas to get them, it was just a cool feature to add.
(4) You could actually become the animals in this game. I think they knew they had a good thing going there when they touched on it a little bit in the first game and used the animals for the bonus levels.
I could go on and on about what made this game great, but I think the above 4 things pretty much covers it. |

DK64, no matter what my friends said, was a let down.
Boring bosses (although the last couple were kind of interesting). And I didn't like the weapons, made it feel to superficial. Plus, it was damned easy. |

I liked DK64, but it could have been 412% better. It wasn't DK enough, I just thought of it as a monkey game. |

I wish Nintendo would release a Donkey Kong Game just like the DKC series. Or maybe just a collection of the three with more features. But if they change the graphics just a bit, it will screw up the whole look of the game. |

Yeah, the swimming levels were fine.
In each of the DKC games they rocked out with an awesome theme.
Anyone agree to me that Rare totally f*cked up Donkey Kong 64? That game was horrendous, I had high hopes for it expecting a good series being brought into the 3D world like Mario 64 ... but it completely failed. |

I thought DKC was great. It was the only one in the series I ever got everything on, and I did it all myself, no cheatcodes or anything. That was big for me, I was a little kid back then. As a matter of fact, Donkey Kong Country was the first video game I ever actually beat by myself as a child.
It's extremely far from "blah", that's for sure. And DKC2 kinda irritated me, the music was amazing, but it wasn't my kind of music. If anything it creeped me out.
And no matter what, in every DKC game, swimming levels were NOT done right. I hated them. |
