I have nothing in particular against Mos Def, and in fact I kinda like some of his music. But as Ford Prefect... I just don't see it working, I guess partly because I have this fixed idea of Arthur and Ford both being English. But I'm open to being pleasently surprised.

Mos Def has a really funkerific face, he'll be a good Ford. Bring something to the screen with a little flava.

42!

Yea, I found the book funny. Will likely see this to see if they can convert humor to big screen well.

Sorry for the confusion; I was flanking Dracoon's post with Smallhacker's (true) post to illustrate that Dracoon was apparently not reading the thread. Because as several people have pointed out, there was no movie, just the show. I liked the show when I watched it, but it was many many years ago.

Mos Def as Ford Prefect actually makes sense in a way...............

I have no comment until more information is available. =(

Mos Def as Ford Prefect?! WTMFS?!

I was willing to try to be optimistic about this before, but I am now beginning to despair. This should never have been made without Adams himself there to supervise the whole project. It could still pleasently surprise me like the LotR movies did (I don't know what Legion is on about, I thought they did a damn good job), but somehow I doubt it. But I'll still go see it. Sigh.

What are you talking about? There WAS no Old Movie, just a TV series made back in 1983 which amalgamates the plots of the first and second books. I like the series as it encapsulated Douglas Adams' humour very well, especially in it's depiction of the Guide itself. Marivn rocks too., he even released a Single.

NE ways.. as for the new film. I saw the trrailer and it made me shift uncomfortably in my seat, having ruined one British institution (Thunderbirds anyone?), they look like ruining another. It's got a Brit as Arthur Dent, but everyone else is American, and it's being financed by Hollywood. I know this is what Adams would have wanted (he tried to get it off the ground for years) but the fact his script has been re-written too... Hmm/... not good.
Just hope it's better than Vogon poetry...

Wasn't there already a movie, althought a old one?

There has been a TV show, but never a movie.

I hope it'll be better than the original movie, it was lame, and not very interesting...

It is being done by BRITISH people. Since when did there comedy go bad? What's that never? The movie will be good because of a lack of Hollywood.
And expect for Simpsons, Brittish comedy is much more fun than US.

And I like Monthy pythons.

I hope that either
A) The movie sucks
B) It kicks ass but does not feature a mattress

because I wouldn't want a popular movie with my name in it. I'd seem unoriginal.

I have high hopes, however. Ha! Whores. Who hates hitchhikers? =(

As good as british humor is, I am concerned mostly because of all the hype behind the movie. For the really hardcore fan's sake, I hope it can live up to it all.

If it's written by Adams, I doubt it's too bad. I mean, he DID write the books .

"The original screenplay was written by Douglas Adams himself, but was later revised by Garth Jennings and Karey Kirkpatrick after Adams' untimely death."

Because they want money? Even if it sucks they will get money out of it, so they don't care. The preview was funny, but uninformative. Who knows, maybe it won't super-suck. Maybe just semi-suck.
