I've never had things like this happening to my computer, truly weird. |

I believe that happens only when you have an onboard sound card. |

My DS's AC adaptor makes a noise like that. I've seen monitors do it before, only old ones though. (My speakers also make a slight buzz when I move the mouse.) Other than that all I hear from my computer is nearly-constant HDD access when trying to do anything even remotely CPU-intensive. Stupid slow computer. |

I seem to have forgotten a critical five words After the comma in my above post, add in, "that made a whining noise".
I have used CRT monitors before, but none of them have made whining noises.
Hopefully that clears things up |

Would you rather have a beep or what happened to my monitor. Somehow, red and blue just shut down. All it could show it multiple shades of green. Constantly annoying. |

The kind of noise I was initially talking about was one that the monitor emits after a short period of time (you have to turn it off, wait a minute or two, and then hopefully when you turn it on again it will have stopped, but it'll start again in a few minutes).
I'm experiencing the other problem, too, however. On frantic screen updates the graphic card makes a similar noise, but that doesn't happen too often, so I'm not worried.
From the article linked: "There are several parts inside the monitor that can potentially make this noise - the horizontal flyback transformer and to a lesser extent, the deflection yoke and associated geometry correction coils would be my first candidates. In addition, transformers or chokes in the switching power supply if this is distinct from the horizontal deflection circuitry."
Makes sense. |

Are you sure it's your monitor making the noises? I know some motherboards, and more often sound cards, will make strange hissing or buzzing noises when you move the mouse or perform certain other activities. You can literally hear the system processing...it's weird. |

My CRT made a lot of high-pitched noises when I first bought it, so I don't think it's anything to do with age. My own fix was just a change in resolution, as certain resolutions seemed to get of the the noise completely. It's just a pity that the resolution that whined a lot was 1024x768 which is the highest resolution that most games can run at. |

Do these noises happen all the time, or when you move your mouse?

I don't think I've ever used CRT monitors, but a couple sites I read said something about the noise being coils inside vibrating, whatever and wherever those may be I was able to dig up another site, here, that may give you a better answer to your question
I'm aware that the link in my post may not be very visible on the background, so if anyone knows how I could change it (I already tried using font color tags), a PM with instructions on how to do so would be appreciated, and hopefully you can see the link to click it for the time being |

It's been a few years since I stopped using CRT monitors at home but I've always been wondering why some CRTs, when they get old, start emitting these high-pitched noises (high sine waves, basically). Since I have to work at CRT monitors now at work, I figured I might as well ask this here. Is it something related to the cannon being worn out? |
