And yes KOF kicks ass...though between all the games combined I don't think you'll find much better than '97 or '98...possibly '99 but that system with the Ability Points gets on my nerves. 2003 was...pff...it's more like Marvel vs. Capcom now...

...and they messed...with Terry...why?!

My favorites are 97-99, and 2001. They messed with Terry because that's his Mark of the Wolves look.

When I play MVC2 I look like I'm button mashing because I double tap buttons a lot. But I'll beat you in 20 seconds or less if all you do is button mash. It doesn't matter if the computer AI is smarter in whichever game, these games are meant to be played with a human player.

I have yet to see anyone play MvC2 without twirling the stick and beating on the pad like a deranged ape and get anywhere. There might be really SKILLFUL players out there, sure, but I sure as hell can't find them.

All I was trying to say is that arguing about what game is more masher-friendly is pointless, because in almost every game the masher will get beat by any player who knows what he's doing.

I'm saying that in KOF, it's consdierably harder to button mash and prevail. The CPU has both great blocking and great tactics as far as combos go. But I win because I know what move to use for my team and when to use them.

End-all-be-all of the button mashing debate:

Yes, in almost every game a button masher can achieve some level of success. However, in almost every game, a person who has control and uses the proper moves in the proper situations will almost always prevail over the button masher.

I'm not saying that all SF style fighting games require no skill. I am saying that a lot more can be accomplished in those games w/button mashing than in KoF with button mashing. And I play both types of games, so I deliver a point of view that takes both sides.(if you play only one of them)

In Marvel vs Capcom 2, if you can kill all 3 of my characters within 15 seconds through button mashing, I will start liking KoF. Otherwise, don't say it doesn't involve skill.

He will not admit that without SF 2, there would be no KOF. SF 2 made the formula that everyone simply had to follow when it came to fighting games. (Such is the way with Square and FF)

The KOF series is all right, I'll give you that. But there are others that are superior to it. It seems as if all SNK did for their fighters was focus on looks and taunting instead of actual gameplay. The games are too slow paced for my blood.

That is true. If you look at the Kyokugen Karate team, a lot of it seems similar to SF. Hell, look at Robert Garcia and Yuri Sakazaki(Ryo's lil sis), they're very similar to Dan and Sakura from SF. But tbe SNK counterparts came out earlier and are cooler.

Robert & Dan:

Yuri & Sakura:

NOTE: with Sakura and Yuri, it's more about WHO THEY ARE than their look which is similar.

Ryo & Ken:

Ken does look a bit more like Terry with his long hair, but....

The thing that THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON is that they all practice Kyokugen Karate. And the SNK ones are much better. Also, the SNK dudes are all not only from KOF but also AOF(Art of Fighting) and the Capcom dudes are all from Street Fighter.(at least one of them)

EDIT: Ohmigod, KOF owns SF in so many ways. For one, the combos are much better and cooler. KOF uses more of actual skill than button mashing which is what we see in SF. My friend and I played SF...he won. Then we played KOF, and since I knew the moves well, I won. But also, KOF has a way of varying in every game. The system, I mean, is always different. Also, they add and take away characters many times as well. This keeps the player waiting for more the next year. Also, not to mention, things like moves and stances change as well. Plus, you can't hate Terry's engrish lines, which is what keeps ME playing.

I love that game too. I'm going to get those MAME files off of you one day too!

I ALWAYS use Whip because I'm a cheap ass.

One of my least favorite fighting games.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing wrong with the series itself... But I could never get into the SNK fighters. I grew up playing the Capcom and Midway fighters, so to change my pace around... it didn't work out so well in the arcade.

I'll end up trying it out soon though - just to see if I have the patience for the system now.

Oh my God, you guys know how Ziff has had this epiphany with DDR? Well, I think I had the same revelation, except with King of Fighters, or as we fans like to call it, KOF. I have all of the ones that have come out so far ('94-'03) on Mame and I just love playing them over and over. Anyone else love this series as much as I do? By the way, my "dream team" consists of Terry, Joe, Ryo, and sometimes Vanessa.(as striker or fourth member)
