Well I was exaggerating, but the colors in the game are so effectively used that the color depth seems much richer than it should be. It looks a lot better than pretty much all the stuff I saw in my NES days.

MoN, the lack of colors makes it look pretty NES-ish to me. The first thing I thought of was how truly excellent this game would look if they had even 16 colors per sprite to work with instead of four.

The shades of green used on the map screen look really smooth though.

Just looking at the screenshots, I would not have guessed this being a NES game.

I don't think that anyone's going to dispute this being one of the most comprehensive hacks to date. However, now you've gotta run with the ball and come up with a good gameplay experience. Don't let us down.

heh... that's how I felt about the original DXO... I'm not a fan of DQ, but I liked the hack (which remains my favorite ROM hack to this day).

not so sure about this one, though... it looks to be an awesome hack by any measure, although, being a longtime fan of FF1, I'm wary of some of the fundamental gameplay changes being made (e.g. reducing the party to a single character). however, that's the strongest criticism I can level at the hack, and not everyone agrees with my opinion (much to my chagrin).
the changes themselves are quite impressive... it looks like DXO2 will be to FF1 what Mario Adventure was to SMB3 and Zelda Challenge was to The Legend of Zelda.
Then again, MA didn't make SMB3 less "Mario-like" and ZC:O didn't make LoZ less "Zelda-like"... :-\

About the prototype enemy palettes: If you had read what Thaddeus wrote about them on that page, you'd notice he was using the Imp's default palette. Obviously he plans to change that.

Those dungeons look excellent, especially the red brick floors.

What is the plot of the game? Guns and undead-like things, yet the backgrounds suggest an medieval-type world.

(Edited to add the word "excellent", which I'd ungrammatically left out.)

The battle screen is nothing short of spectacular! Congrations
I remember it being said that there would be at least 3 characters (not at the same time of course), like you could choose to play more in a "psychic" way, using psionic powers and laying the mental smackdown on stuff. Was i stoned?

Say, why is every prototype enemy orange?
That's actually a good one Maybe it's part of the whole "setting", who knows...

Looks great. There seems to be shitloads of work put in that, to make it amasing.

Dragoon X Omega II

Thaddeus made this little page last night as sort of a credits/project summary. I think just about everything about the hack is detailed in this page.. So instead of wasting my breath re-stating what Thadd just took the time to create and better articulate, just check out the link.

All I can say is that from the relatively short amount of time I've been working with Sliver-X and Thaddeus on DXOII, they have impressed me like no other hackers have. They have truly put in an amazing amount of work and thought.. If this wasn't a hobby, i'd be tempted to pay them
