thanks ppl. I guess I'm gonna change the FG's pallete on the screen of the moles to something darker and use another tileset, like a grass one. Plus, I'll leave the BG with that pallete, and make the cement blocks grey again.
Is it a nice idea?

And make sure not to make the hack "Cheaply Difficult." I hate playing hacks where you have to use a save state every step you make because you have to pass through an area with flying fish and precise jumping for example. So, I'd suggest that when you're making the levels, pretend that the game is going to be released on a cart. That way, you'll make the game for all ages and skill levels to enjoy. And the game on a cart won't allow save states. Just stating my opinion, because most hacks out there don't go by this rule, and are a hassle to complete.

No GFX changes and focusing on level design is a good idea, and I'm pretty sure the hack will end up as an enjoyable experience in the end. Just DON'T get lazy and raise the cheapness meter for lack of difficulty and you'll be fine

The stone blocks in the Mega Mole shot are... bleh...
Otherwise looking good.

For some reason I like screen four.

Nice idea, Aioria, to make a hack with no graphical changes. More focus on the levels. I like it.

Not all the default palettes work with every set.

I was mainly referring to these two.

EDIT: And not the entire scheme. Certain objects look like junk.

I looked at your screens and I would those jokers looks pretty cool and on 2nd screen I liked that one the most where you had the big palm tree connecting to the other objects but though if I were you, I would make the background a pale orange color not a hot Intense color.
As for the others and I am most definetlly impressed ! Rock on man !

As long as the hack is fun, graphics are mostly meaningless. Some of your palette choices are a little blah, but otherwise, it looks like fun. I'd play it.

Ok friends, this is my second hack, Mario Tales (the name is probably gonna be changed soon though).
Anyway, my main goal with this hack is to avoid using exgfx, gfx changes or asm (therefore there won't be new sprites or custom blocks). Those things are all for Mario Legends, the hack that I've been making since last year.
So, what am i gonna do for making Mario Tales be interesting? Simple, I'm gonna give a lot of emphasys on level design and try to make a really fun game, making a decent use of palletes, tile placement, etc.

Please see the screenies below from the first 3 levels and post your comments.

As i said before, my objective is making a fun game with a great level design. I'm gonna put a lot of effort in this 2 points, so dont expect any gfx changes or addictions.

This game is to be like a SMW lost levels, that is, it is harder than SMW, but it still has a difficult level that grows as you advance through the game, as every hack should have
