Yuri's Revenge

The mobile artillery helicopters = unfair when backed up with Apocalypse.

5 copters 10 tanks, enough to destroy any well defended expansion.

Ah, I found out something interesting.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I watched a series of replays that my friend Kevin made in RA2. He kept on fighting computer opponents, using the same fighting style over and over. At first, his style won entirely (harrier rushes, scattering, etc.) but gradually, the computers started changing their tactics. Before, they'd just hit him with land units (they were easies, three of them), and they wouldn't even notice the air units coming. Then, all of a sudden, he plays one game against the easies...

They rush him. With Harriers. Totally destroy his construction yard and nearly disable him (he had another base of course). It was strange, the computers seemed to adapt themselves to his fighting style. Is that included in the scripting for the AI?

Oooh, I hope they have Kirov's in the new game!! There's something about a giant, slow moving floating bubble of DEATH that is just *cool*.

Heh, I usually call the Kirov's, slow moving turds of death. They are a cheap-ass tactic to use. Even cheaper than a huge fleet of Prism tanks. Personally, I prefer waves of Chrono IFV's, just for the challenge.

However, the most cheapest tactic to get money hasn't yet been mentioned. Put a spy in an enemies refinery. Usually, in skirmish mode, you get tons of cash. Spies rock.

You mean some kind of airship. Ah, now I remember. Its name is Kirov's Airship.

Once, I destroyed my enemy's base completely with only one Kirov.

Do you have the latest update of Red alert 2 and all for Windows XP? I have no problems at all with Red Alert 2 in multiplayer in Win XP.

One of the things that makes RA2 easy is oil derricks, but even on maps without them it's still easy. In the older CnC you had silos and all to build too, they removed the silo concept in Red alert 2. I actually kinda liked the silo concept.

Brutal computers can be patheticly easy sometimes, if they can't reach you at all. They won't bother attacking expect for Airplanes.

Well, if I ever get my thing to work without the BSoD, I'll challenge you to a game.

And I didn't realise that there were other Star Wars RTS games coming out.... I'll have to look out for them when they come out.

And yeah, it is easy to get money in RA2... although if you get enough people competing with you for it, (as mentioned in my post) it's not as easy any more! Like I said, I was taking over the enemy base -- not cause I wanted to defeat them, but cause I wanted their precious, precious resources.

RA2 is the easiest CnC, or at least that's how I feel it. The AI may be more advanced than the others CnC but it's so easy to get money in the game. In Tiberian dawn you have to struggle econmcally. There every penny counts... I find it harder in Tiberium sun. Thought it could just be becuse i'm not used to that one. (That's the one I have played the least...)

That Star wars RTS they're making isn't out yet. There is a few others RTS already but thoose aren't that good. Considering it's made by RTS veterans it probably will be good.

450 mhz is more than enough to run Red alert 2, Red alert 2 uses voxels instad of polygons (think pixel art in 3D, it's quite easy to make tanks. It's as doing pixel art but with depth too. ) so it's not taking that much power. Infact they took away some things from the Tiberium sun engine for Red alert 2, intresting there is a still few things left that isn't used. Red alert 2 supports tunnels but unlike Tiberium sun, thoose aren't used. And you can make the tanks dig underground like in tiberium sun.

I played against somebody once over the net as Allies, I won and I take gladly another match.

Skirmishes are lots of fun.

I was setting myself little challenges before, but I haven't played in a while, so I decided I'd just go for easy enemies -- just lots of them.

7 Easy Enemies offers an interesting challenge -- not cause the enemies themselves are hard, but it's a definite fight over the resources available in the game..... (I wound up using Engineers to take over enemy bases, and then selling their stuff to get funds...)

I'm guessing with a VPN, I could play over the Internet..... but other than tha, I can't. Damn, I'd really like to play against *real people*. I'm positive you'd kick my arse, as I suspect that the machine -- even on Brutal -- isn't all that tricky.

I can't play with people either, but that's just that my Internet capabilities include the BSoD....

I can network though, but not Internet.

Lately I've just been seeing how many enemies I can skirmish against at the same time.

I like Red Alert 2... a lot. I wish I could play it online, but... somehow my CD key is invalid... which sucks. I am a pro at that game... just need to play with people.

I am glad another Red Alert is coming out. I like the previous storys and the gameplay is the best. It isn't so much as commanding EVERY single unit in the game (the harvesters go off on their own when you build them and such) and it also has many fun maps... and a random map generator...

Too bad my computer is too crappy to handle it... 450 mhz... enough said...

Ah, I've heard of the Star Wars RTS, and I think I've seen one of them in stores for Mac... (but not been sure whether to buy it or not).

Red Alert 2 is my favorite as far as gameplay goes, but I get errors when I try to play the story one after a certain way...

So I just skirmish. A lot.

But Kane and Nod is mentioned in Red alert. GDI wasn't mentioned, but that's becuse it was built in the middle of the 90's.

Seen the "soviet won" ending in the orginal Red alert? Stalin got killed by a woman from Nod and well... Kane was assisting Stalin all the way along.

However Generals and Red alert/Tiberium series are seperate. That could be said.

Well, RA2 wasn't made by the orginal CnC theme anyway. Most did go over to petroglyph and are working on a Star Wars RTS now...

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Red Alert a totally different universe that had nothing to do with the Tiberium universe? That's what I always thought, anyway.... Far as I know, GDI wasn't capable of Chronosphere technology in TS or TD, and neither was NOD. Plus, neither GDI nor NOD are mentioned at all in Red Alert.

In any case, I still see Red Alert 2 as one of the greatest RTS games ever made, certainly superior to stuff like Age of Empires and Lords of the Realm. It's right tied equally with Warcraft III and Starcraft as my favorite RTS games.

My favorite one story wise is the orginal, CnC: Tiberium dawn (honestly, the movies rocked, even if they're outdated now ). But the orginal Red alert is my favorite gameplay one.

Well, at least I hope it will be not a failure. A few CnC fans complain about RA2 not fitting together with the other CnC but as long you think there is two timelines from the orginal Red alert, it isn't a problem. Either it turns into Tiberian dawn (russia wins in Red alert) or Red alert 2 (allied wins in Red alert).

I prefer the orginal CnC engine (Tiberian dawn, Red alert, Dune 2000), and the CnC voxel style one (Tiberian sun, RA2) before the W3D one. (Renegade, Generals, "Tiberian twilight"...)

I'm hoping for a CnC game to the DS too, I wouldn't mind a port of the orginal/Red alert with a few features added.

I never really got into Red Alert 2 at all. I don't think i would bother buying this, i have C&C, C&C Red Alert, C&C Tiberian, C&C Retalliation and they were all and still are great. I think they should leave it now, maybe go to a different side of the market rather than the same old cold war situation. Maybe go into the middle East

Personally, I love the Red Alert series, but I am rather concerned that it will not be in 2D. I love the 2D games... C + C Generals did nothing for me, and the fact that it was 3D was one of the reasons why.

I love the 2D games though... MORE 2D RED ALERT!

(Note: I have been playing RA2 all day today)
