hiro,
Thanks for the suggestion. I've been working on a new version off and on, so I could probably put that in.

I downloaded the dump Zombies_Ate_My_Neighbors_(U), renamed the ROM to zamn.smc as stated and everything went fine.

While saving, it also didn't crash on my Windows XP Home with SP2. This is (very quick) proof where I just replaced one BBQ victim by another teacher sprite; the other victims are locked up ande moved the ? outside the hidden place in level 1 :

Well, Im sorry for putting u out there doing more work on the program. I really appreciate it. For some reason. the rom was working fine in the emulators, but didn't want to work with the zamn editor. So I downloaded a fresh rom and now it works.

So to those having problems with the editor. Find a new rom.

Sloat, I'd like to encourage u for making such a great editor and I think that you should submit this editor to Zophars domain. Because some of us here would not of known about the editor if it hadn't been pointed out by somoeone who happend to visit your site. Zophar domain is basically the bible of rom hacking utililities.

Edit:

I wanted to make a suggestion. Maybe you should make a feature so that you can browse thru tiles pictures as you are selecting them. Or you can include a map of what tiles are what number, like this.

Ok, sorry, edit 3. In case anyone is interested. I made the 1st publicly released level hack of zombies ate my neibours. It's only 1 level. but its a start. Here's the ips patch.

You don't get any error messages at all when the editor starts up? Nothing about not being able to find the file or not being able to find image files?

The only reason it would crash when you try to change levels or save would be because the rom isn't loaded. There are a couple reasons it couldn't be loaded:

1. It's not named zamn.smc
2. It's not a valid rom. Won't work if it's zipped or something.
3. It's read only. Every other file attribute is ok.
4. The rom is open in something else, like zsnes or a hex editor.
5. You run it using "Run as..." in windows xp.

I don't know what else it could be.
It works fine for me if the png files are read-only. Works fine on a network share. Works with or without themes. Works fine with or without the ini file. Hardware configuration shouldn't be an issue since I used GDI.

I can't find anything that would cause it to not work the way it should.

Well, out of these only 2 crash on me.

Keys
========
B = Set to BG mode
I = set to item mode
V = Set to victim mode
M = Set to monster mode
F1 = save changes (crash)
F2 = Change Level (crash)
F3 = Misc. Data
F4 = Bonus Editor
F5 = Scratch Pad
F8 = options
Home = Center the screen on Zeke's position
Scroll Lock on = Stop objects from auto-scrolling the map

Far as changing the level goes, the little box pops up where I can type the number for the level, but soon as I press ok then it shuts down.

And the save changes. It crashes as soon as I click yes.

The new ex. file fixes those problems. But I still get a blank screen for the map edit part. Soon as you can fix that I'll be ready to edit the levels.

Hey,

Sorry about all this.
I've posted a test exe file. Just download it and replace the other file from the full edition.

new exe file

Can anyone tell me what it says when it crashes (and what you did to make it crash, ie change levels, change modes, etc.)? Any other messages that pop up would be most helpful.

-----

I just noticed in that screenshot that you have zsnes running too. If you have the rom loaded in zsnes and try to load the editor, you should get a message saying that it couldn't find the rom. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried the other way around, but I wouldn't recommend it anyway. I tried to make the editor require exclusive access to prevent file screw-ups, but I don't remember how extensively I tested this.

Weird. You could try emailing the author, perhaps he knows of a solution.

Downloaded it and get the same results.

See. I went thru the read me. I checked the tiles directory and the 8 png files showed up. But the map folder is empty. Whenever I try to change modes Usually it will crash.

Did you download the full version of the editor though? There's two versions on the site. One with images, and one without. Quite why he put two versions up, is beyond me.

The only time I ever got a blank screen, was when I loaded the one without images.

I tried naming it ZAMN, and ZAMN.smc

Same blank screen.

1) Did you rename the ROM to zamn.smc, and put it in the same directory as the editor?
2) Did you download the full version of the editor?

It worked second time for me. First time, it prompted me to rename the ROM to zamn.smc.
