Yes, you do need two YY-CHR programs open at once to edit multiple games, which I actually perfer. I like to keep everything seperate, that way I can draw on a blank slate with one YY-CHR and experiment with different palletes, and then insert the GFX with the other YY-CHR. No matter how many games I have open, I always have a blank YY-CHR to arrange stuff on to make sure my tile ideas don't suck (Like if I'm making an 8x8 tile or something or 16x16 in case of the big skull in my CV hack)

HAHA! Johnson, this hack is due in two weeks. If you do not complete it by then, YOU'RE FIRED!

--note--

that wasn't a Donald trump refrence, it was more of a Mr. Slate/Mr. Spacely refrence.

SO, what we know so far on this thread is that the program yy-chr is the best for editing Tiny toons. I find that Tile Molestor is the best for most games. what I cannot figure out at this point is how to edit 2 roms at once with yy-chr. seems like you need two programs going at the same time.

Seems people are interested in the idea of me actually attempting this guy's idea! I myself think that the first thing, like most hacks, would be to get the main character's graphics done, then enemies then backgrounds then music if anyone finds out the format because I myself am not much of a hacker in that way, I might at the most be able to change the graphics and maybe find the palettes in the rom and if I am lucky title and menu screens might be in a simple tilemap format to edit.

what should he change the buzzard guy to? you know, the between rounds cut-scene, "nope nope".

I thought there were urban style levels in Super Mario Land 2. Also they were in Urban areas throughout the super mario movie.

I agree with changing the enemies tho.

I disagree.... The hack will have a big impact only if characters, backgrounds, cutscenes, etc were changed.

Some stages aren't "Marioish".... Urban places and the Wackyland for example...

yeah, and I'm guessin that you needn't change much of the background gfx as it looks pretty Mario-y already

I would love to see it done! Please Someguy, make that hack for us!!!
I don't know if I am right, but I believe there is a Gorilla that throws barrels somewhere in the game. Would be sweet to see that boss with Donkey Kong GFX.

HELL YEAH DUDE! go for it. I may dabble a little into it, but there is now way i'd ever creat a finished piece worthy of others to play.

I say go for it, I was gonna look into it, but I'd rather play it than make it. I think if u change the graphics up a bit it would make a pretty good smb game.

Is it okay if I take the idea of a Tiny Toons Mario hack then? To tell the truth it would fit quite well and I have been needing something to entertain me, and what better then hacking NES games and learning how to discover new palettes and such to make a classic but hopefully quality NES graphics hack in the new age?

I remember watching this cartoons back in 1991, funny ass cartoon. As for the hack you can find it on Google called Tiny Mario Adventures (Unl) [p1].nes, I'm not used to Mario stomping on rats, funny nontheless. I hope this'll help you start on the hack, good luck kiddo.

YY-CHR Set to view mode "FC/NES x16" works really really well for Tiny Toons. Take a look at that, and there will be no way you can complain about things being in confusing places.

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! I can understand the tile layout for SMB2, but tiny toons is a nightmare in comparison. It doesn't make sense. things are all in odd places. btw, couldn't get nesticle to open roms, so I went with tile layer pro. there doesn't seem to be an "original color" option. yeah sure I can tell it to be certain colors, but that does no good when it turns everything the same color scheme.

original color option.....XD

buddy. you need to make a savestate from nesticle and import it as a pallet. or just find the colors you need, get the RBY value, and enter em in by hand. it wont take more than 5 or 10 minutes of your time, really. even if the colors arent really right, just use a freaking greyscale, you can at least see what the images are supposed to be.

Trust me on this, Nesticle is an important beginner hacking tool. Combined with Tile Layer Pro and some Hex editor you can make miracles!

Maybe I'll try to do this hack myself (I'm somewhat of a bigginer too), I have that pirate Tiny Toon/Mario here somewhere... I truly beleive that even you could do so much better than that. Seriously those pirates are on crack sometimes!

With the slightest bit of work, (um, create a NESticle save state) most tile editors can use the correct in-game palette.

tile molestor? that's a new one to me. i'll give that one a shot maybe. I think one major thing that hinders me is that the tile editor's palletes cannot show the in game sprite color.
