Close to it.
BMF: Heh, no thanks. I already blew up what I suspect was a capacitor or two on my laptop.

You live in Sudbury, ja?

If I upgrade my computer and go to Laurentien Uni, then I'll give you my old mobo and celeron. Hell, I'll throw in a Radeon.

I could send you my SOYO DRAGON Plus! board, which supports up to an Athlon XP 2100+ (I believe), though replacing the leaky capacitors would be entirely your responsibility.

Bleh. Yeah, I need to upgrade, but the one I have in mind costs 1 grand US, which means I have a total of 1 grand US to go.

I remember for my Dell, that max CPU it supported was a P2-450 and I already had P2-400. Anyways, considering how archiac the machine is, I do agree that you are better off buying a brand new computer than just simply upgrading the CPU. Not unless your motherboard does support a pentium CPU...you have to verify that with the HP technical specs of your system.

I don't believe that CPU would work in your system, unfortunately. From what I could gather (and finding upgrade info for your computer was not very easy), the fastest CPU you could probably put in there would be an 850MHz Coppermine PIII w/100MHz FSB. You might just be better off getting a whole new computer, unless there's a big performance difference between the Celeron and the PIII, or you can find such a CPU for a decent price.

I want this piece of poo to go faster. Here's what's in it (Pavillion XG843) according to HP.com:

*Intel Celeron 800 MHz processor
*Socket 370
*100 MHz FSB

Here's what I want (couldn't find anything better) according to newegg.com:

Model: Intel Pentium III
Core: Tualatin
Operating Frequency: 1.13GHz
FSB: 133MHz
Cache: L1/16K+16K; L2/256K
Voltage: 1.5V
Process: 0.13Micron
Socket: Socket 370
Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2
Packaging: OEM(Processor Only)

So would that work in this computer? Is it worth it? (They're asking 50 bucks US, but unless they stop the 'only ships to US' crap pretty quick, I won't be buying it there for obvious reasons. ) Or is there some way I could just overclock this one?
