I liked some of the contests in ruby and sapphire, but I never got into the berry ones...and I sold sapphire to my cousin for $30 like a month ago lol...

Meh, some are really useful for battle. In the battle tower and battling other people you don't lose berries after battle; though you may use 'em during the match they'll be back afterwards. Since some berries are really nice (Lum cures any status ailment as it occurs, but only once, Liechi increases attack power in a pinch) the proper ones can be very useful.

I had use for the rarer ones, for the contest.

Dunno, i'm a big fan of that part of Pok

whenever I played ruby or sapphire, I never really even used the berries much, let alone plant new seeds when I took the berries from the plants...although, I never really seen much use for most berries..only the ones that cure poison and paralysis..

Well, I got that patch from Colleseum. Thought I possible could get it from Ruby.

Are you sure your checking the game everyday? A few trees actually grows and gives beeries in less than one day.

I dunno why it would do that, though. My best guess is that the patch given out by Nintendo to fix the time glitch does only that, whereas the berry enhancer you get from the colleseum bonus disk is the thing that prevents berries from aging past their prime.

You said you got the patch from nintendo, so that would be the logical conclusion...

Are they actually supposed to turn into empty patches where I can plant others, though? I thought the patch prevented that?

This is normal gameplay behavior.

Basically, what happens is that awhile after a berry fully ripens, it wilts and dies if you don't pick soon afterwards. If I recall correctly, wait awhile longer and it'll start growing again from scratch. So eh, no worries.
