I find the color system useless, and pretty much for retards.

I guess you all get my point

What are the odds they display it during election coverage on Tuesday?

Delial: If that's the case... Lots of paranoid Americans out there.

It doesn't actually measure whether or not we will be attacked. It's just a way to keep everyone afraid, consuming, and glued to the news.

You mean there are people who actually pay attention to it? I might notice if it shot up to um, the highest level while flipping to (and quickly away from) Fox News channel.

It is a pointless piece of crap and probably costed $100,000,000 to develope the damn thing. I don't even know what the thing is, so if Bush thinks its working he is an idiot. You know, I am surprised he hasn't said it works and keeps terrorists at bay, but that would be like the episode of the simpsons with the bear patrol, remember what Lisa says?

The Color Alert system is quite possibly the most asinine thing to come out of the post-9/11 Bush administration.

I mean, it makes sense and all, but it makes no sense to have the nation on yellow alert *3* years after 9/11. You'd think that people could, you know, rest easy by now?

If I was in charge of that system, you'd only have 3 levels - Normal, Caution, Danger. Or something like that.

Haha, you said "prejuice".

But what you meant was sterotype. And yes, that's what it is. Hardly anyone fears terrorist attacks anymore. Of course they did right after 9/11 but that's to be expected. Now a days, most people will just shrug it off or laugh at it. I put the sole blame on Michael Moore for perpetuating this nonsense. Damn him.
Eh, simple spelling mistake.

And I didn't belive that people was paranoid, just that it's common that people think that over here. Micheal Moore isn't that big here, he is talked about but... that's about it. :/

And it's common with prejudices the other way around too, mind you. xP

And it will just feeds the prejuice some Europeans have about Americans about them being overly paranoid... ~_~

I thought being overly paranoid was a good thing. As long as it's not drug induced.

Second option sounds like you're saying "retard" nicely ...

It's easily stupid and pointless.

Let me show you my list.

Because of this, I don't think one is necessary, but for those that like smashing their foreheads into whatever hard surface they like, it's needed.

Well, that's what I'm thinking, but I have a better idea; If the government were really so concerned with stopping terrorism, wouldn't it be a good idea to just lower the alert level to green or something, and then just watch as the terrorists walk into our heavily armed terror interception traps? Or something like that. The system's totally pointless, because there's no reason we have to tell the citizens of the US that we're afraid of being attacked, it's demoralizing and it shows that even the government thinks we have a weakness.

Actually, I just thought of something else; why not have something like a "Terrorism Preparedness Scale" that went from really prepared to not prepared at all? We'd do pretty much what we're doing now, and keep saying we're ultra prepared for an attack, as opposed to predicting the likelihood of an attack. It'd still be fucking stupid, but at least then we're giving a positive message to our citizens.

I don't care for it really. It basically creates a system where you can never relax. Let's just assume for simplicity that the terrorists actually pay attention. If you went down to um green or whatever it is I don't even know because they've never gone that low, then the terrorists would be like "This is our chance." So we're not going to portray our selves as being off guard, that's fucking stupid.

I also think Americans are too stupid to understand it. There should be four levels: small, medium, large, and extra large. That's shit we understand. Maybe even throw in "Big Gulp" (gulp in a different sense) to round it out to 5 levels.

It is stupid, it is irritating, and in fact, I think it is great. I mostly like it due to the flack that I can fire at it, by making my own colour coded alert systems.

It's fucking stupid. I hate the fact that we have to go by a stupid color code to determine how much "danger" we're in. Common sense will tell you that terrorists would love to get in some attack on certain holidays and events (such as voting day). But common sense also dictates that it really doesn't matter to them. They'll take what they can get, when they get it. Thus, it's pointless.

Color codes are for pre-schoolers.

It catches a lot of flak, but why shouldn't we have it, really? The only semi-legitimate argument is that it could be used for political purposes, but that's probably way too cynical.

Alright, so I've brought this up before in another topic, but the recent bin-Laden thread reminded me.

What's up with our color-coded terror alert system? Why do we have it? Do you guys think it's worth having? I personally don't, it's just a waste of money and time, and we don't really need to know when there's a possibility of a terrorist attack because it just scares us all and does no help when the actual attacks come. It's better to let the government handle things and to keep us posted on when attacks occur.
