I checked on my Windows 2000 computer... AUTOEXEC.NT is a file in \WINNT\system32. It seems to be related to the DOS subsystem... so unless you're having trouble with DOS applications (16- or 32-bit), that file shouldn't help you. 16-bit Windows applications don't deal with the DOS subsystem on Windows NT (and 2000, XP, 2003, Longhorn).

It should be in C:\ or C:\Windows\System32. If not, make one. I'm pretty sure it's just a batch file.

Found it. Thanks! I would never have looked in /REPAIR.

Also recall that AUTOEXEC.BAT/NT and CONFIG.SYS files are now hidden where the weren't before. So if you don't have browse functions that include you finding hidden files, you won't find it.

If wasn't in any of those directories anyways, then I doubt it exists on your comp.

It's either in %SYSTEMROOT% (Windows\System32 or WINNT\System32 usually), in the root directory of C:, or not on the disk at all. It works in the same concept of AUTOEXEC.BAT on DOS. If it's there then great, it does stuff. If it's not, then it obviously doesn't have commands to run.

He said that he needed to move it to that directory. So I guess it isn't there

Edit: I think I'll upload it, in a few hours.

IT should be there. Or check C:\WINDOWS\repair , maybe you'll have a copy there.

I have problems with XP SP2 and 16-bit apps. I learned that I need to move Autoexec.NT to C:\windows\system32.

The problem: I can't find it.

I can't search for it either. The search feature crashes whenever I try using it. (This isn't SP2 caused, it's happened for a year now.)

Is there a place where it's located on the HD?
If you know of any other third-party search utilites, that might help, too.
