This is where I should be making a bunch of n00b comments. XD

I would wonder if anyone can do the arcade version without a shitload of continues...if any...that thing is a pain in the ass.

Japan version is easier? I got to download that version. I like Battle toads but the difficulty sux alot of fun out of it.

Dumbed down isn't quite the expression I'd use, this being an action game and all, but they did take out a lot of things such that there's actually room for error in sections.

There's not too much of a difference in the first two levels--in fact, Level 2 is actually a bit harder because the electricity shooting robots will be aware of you hanging by the wall attempting to wrecking ball them--but starting on Level 3 you'll notice things get MUCH easier. The pace of the speed levels is slower, a few obstacles are missing, etc.

Or maybe you won't notice a damn thing depending on how far you got in the game.

...They dumbed it down for Japanese release?

I could see a wee bit of difficulty being shed, but I'll have to try that.

The pic you posted is Level 7.

And Xeogred is describing Level 10, where the object is actually to get to a bomb and defuse it before he blows it up. And that rat's name is actually Scuzz (Big Blag is the huge rat in Level 5).

As an aside, the Japanese version of Battletoads is far easier than its US counterpart.

The giant rat's name is Big Blag.

I never beat the game but I think I got to last level where you had to climb this giant tower and take out so many of these bat enemies ...

But level 8 I think, was insane.
A very intense level that pits you racing to the bottom of the level ... while that giant rat (forgot his name) is chasing you and when he touches you ... death.

You have to be nearly 100% precise and accuratly the fastest that you can possibly be in this level. My friend and I probably died 50+ times on this level alone.

Eh, the next level is harder. For making the videos I talked about in the first post, I managed to beat this level on one life after many tries (Though Robo-Manus handed me my ass). The next level I didn't even attempt to beat on one life.

Battletoads = Hardest. Mega. Effing. Pissed Off. Kill your family. Nuke the world. Game. Ever.

But I still love the game. XD

Nintendo Power gave it a crapload of hype.

Looking back, some people dismiss it as too hard, but the first couple of levels are all right. It's just that it has a really, REALLY steep learning curve. (Trust me, I thought it would be decent since the first level was fairly easy. Wrong. )

Colin: I don't know that I would necessarily call it underrated, because it received quite the amount of hype back in the day. I AM of the position that it's one of their best games, though.

Neko: Yeah, I don't even think the Turbo Tunnel is the hardest stage of the game.

I did manage to beat the GB version a loooooooong time ago... doubt I could do it again in a pinch.

So the end of Turbo Tunnel on the NES is just ups and downs... just ups and downs while moving at Mach 5. I think I got to the end... once.

And yet there's two schools of thought about the game; one being it was one of Rare's most underrated games, and the other being it was one of Rare's WORST games.

Um... Hello? Rare made Taboo as well you know.

I think the problem isn't that it's hard as much as it is that the game's cheap. Like, there's jumps in level 3 that you have to be at PRECISELY the right pixel to make. And I have NO idea how you beat the Clinger Winger (I think that's it) stage. The orb's just too fast, and my turning abilities aren't ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.
