Most of them aren't as high-profile as Vice City (Although Rare probably rivals Rockstar in terms of crappy beta testing. See Battletoads, DK64).

I said MOST games. Besides, that doesn't change the fact that their attitute towards THEIR bug in THEIR game was "we're not fixing it."

And I suppose Rockstar aren't really a terrible company. But for awhile, they had a lot of non-GTA games that received an inordinate amount of hype because "d00d itz rawk* automatik gaem of teh year!11!11" and turned out to be...not very good upon release. State of Emergency comes immediately to mind.

And the industry has pretty much always been the publisher's bitch, at least here in the States. The FCC found Nintendo guilty of price-fixing practices in the late-80s/early-90s. The punishment? The FCC basically told them "sell more games!" Well, not quite, but they made Nintendo offer $5 off coupons to customers, which amounted to pretty much the same thing.

Serves 'em right for imposing such strict measures on the release of San Andreas. Retailers in the UK have had to cancel their midnight openings because Take Two thinks that it is a breach of the street date. This has meant mass rebranding for HMV and various other retailers.

This is only the beginning. There are tonnes of other crappy tasks they've given to retailers. If you don't obey, you don't get re-orders for GTA.

Some retailers who broke the street date for previous titles won't even recieve any stock for another week.

Yep, the industry is now the publisher's bitch.

To keep your bodyfat low, you also have to eat the right kind of food. Picking the salad meal (which also happens to be more expensive than most of the other stuff at the fast food joint) usually does the trick.

I haven't even come across a pool hall yet, and I've driven all over the first city to fill in the map. Then again, maybe I'm just not looking around enough...and some mission or another will probably show me where one is. I'm currently on a mission where you have to do multiple drive-bys while keeping your car from getting completely shot up. Once I get the hang of sticking around just long enough so my buddies can kill the targets, it should be easier. I got creamed the first time because I really didn't know what I was doing.

So the game has a moral message as well - go to the gym or you get fat! XD

My friend's probably going to be hanging out in the pool halls. That's his game of choice.

Rando picked this up today, which was a very pleasant surprise. I figured it would be constantly sold out for the next few weeks. Though I loved the soundtrack of Vice City and its gameplay style, I thought it was too difficult early on and pretty much gave up. San Andreas is definitely easier to get into. I've done a few story missions and am currently messing around looking for tags to spray and occasionally running over people for $$$. One interesting aspect of this game is that you have to feed your character and do tasks to improve your stats and skills. For instance, you can go to the gym and lift weights to make C.J. stronger and more muscular. (You do have to keep returning, though, otherwise your muscularity starts to decrease...just like in real life. )

That's supposed to be coming out on the same day as San Andreas, I believe.

It's in the style of the old GTA games from what I've read.

I want to see how GTA Advance turns out... That'll be interesting to say the least.

I don't think Rockstar's a bad company (aren't their Midnight Club racing games decent?) but they at least HAVE a solid hit. Where was that for Acclaim the past few years?

Well, considering that Acclaim Part 2 (As I like to call Rockstar, because that's pretty much what they are if you take away the GTA series) basically took a "too fucking bad" approach to the save-deleting bug in Vice City, I like to think of this as karma biting them in the ass.

You can get it like. Anywhere

I still haven't gotten Doplhin to work with any GCM for som reason, even the ones that are supposed to work.

Hah. Bugs in Rockstar games are like flies at a manure processing plant. I seriously don't think they debug their games at all.

I'm pretty sure that's fake or doesn't exist.

I don't really think it's an "I can't wait, let's steal a beta" kind of thing so much as an "OMFG, their developer directory is publicly accessible and there's a beta in it, let's tell people".

Downloading games in the internet pre release is allmost normal nowadays..

So, if the companies can't watch their back, be it their problem.

But I think one of the biggest leakages was Zelda: OOT Master Quest, no one was able to rip Cube-Games back then, but the European Version was for Download and playable in a N64 Emulator.

It should be uncommon at best if it was a rom and it's in a rom database. But I thought that was a semi-rumor...

And nobody wants to leak GC games because almost nobody can PLAY the ISO's. GBA is a bit different of course. I think Fusion beat street date by 3 weeks.

There's been early releases of games sometimes in stores, but Nintendo *DOES* punish retailers for breaking street date.

As for GBA games... *cough*Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance*cough*

In that case... expect there to be yet another Gamespot article saying how Dead or Alive: Ultimate just got leaked despite it's due out in less than a week (same day as San Andreas actually; not like it can compete with it in terms of sales, but nonetheless, I'm still picking it up for Xbox when it's out).
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
