you gotta think of it like this.

1 2 3

3 pokemon. We'll say 1 is a fire type, 2 is a water, and 3 a grass. If you choose 1, the game is programed to make your rival choose 2. If you choose 2, he is programed to take 3. If you take 3, he is programed to take 1. Now if you change what elements are to which "Pokeball" number, that would defete the whole "rival getting the better of you" sort of thing. As for the thing with moltres...I'm going to assume you must have entered his value twice, its the only logical explanation I can conjure.

in my hack of gold, i made it that you could choose one of the 3 birds (zapdos moltres and articuno)and when i choose moltres, the rival gets moltres!then i made the starters the ones from red and blue, but then he chose a bulbasaur when i chose a CHARMANDER! what is going on?!
