the best idea is to make a cartridge of the translated rom.
the newest snes9x still has some (minor) issues.
plus, the timing is only 100% accuracte on a real snes.

oh, and im glad you like the game.

it really was a bitch to hack, probably one of the hardest snes games ever.
the reason is that

1) everything is heavily compressed and
2) the super fx is used for basically every task.

that means you have to know snes and super fx assembler to crack it.

really, the hardest project ive worked on so far.

That's exactly what I'd recommend. The SNES9x build runs the game supringly well... and the only features it's really missing are rewind and fastforward-on-a-gamepad. I still prefer ZSNES whenever possible... but SNES9x just seems like it's clearly the better option for this particular game.

Although, I don't think it's the latest SNES9x... it was a special build. v. 1.41-1 I believe. It's available on their site still though. The latest might run it too... but I'm not sure (I'm kind of doubtful).

From what I hear, the age of that build spans eras.

From what I heard from Zelda DD, this is a common problem with ZSNES... which is why I don't use it.

My problem (which happened only once in my many many MANY runthroughs) was on the map screen when a bunch of game events happened like all at the same time (I blew up a missile while another one launched, and the satellite shot something down... I'm pretty sure it was just a game glitch). Not once have I had problem with the in-flight game. A few depth problems here and there (like I could see a switch/enemy through a small platform) but nothing major.

Granted... I haven't played with the ZSNES version.. but it seems to be error prone from what I've been hearing, and even the discaimer on their page. So for now I'd recommend sticking with the special SNES9x build.

Sounds similar to the problem I just had:
I was in the middle of the game, and all of a sudden, the ship disapeared, weapon crosshairs stayed in the same position, but everything else (music, animation) kept going. It lasted for a minute or two, when finally, ZSNES crashed. It's happened several times. However, if you hit the rewind key, and keep playing, sometimes it will keep working...
It could be either: Rom or Emu. The ZSNES WIP site said that it still has major problems, maybe this could be one of them...

I use the SNES9x version mentioned in the readme. I typically prefer ZSNES, but for StarFox2, the SNES9x build runs it flawlessly as far as I can tell. I only had a problem once, but it seemed to be due to a bug in the ROM, not the emu (animations/music were still running, but the game was in like a loop that didn't accept user input).

And to top it off: A NEW ZSNES WIP that fixes the darned flicker glitch!
http://www.ipherswipsite.com/zsnes/

However, there is a little bad news:
"Notice: While this WIP plays Star Fox 2 without flickering, it still has major problems. "

Still, a great update! Yahoo!

I must give a huge thanks to the team that made this possible. This game rocks on so friggin much and without their work, we couldn't enjoy all these great ideas put into Star Fox that Nintendo stupidly scrapped (I mean come on! The walker form just kicks so much ass!)

I'm now kind of disappointed that Star Fox 64 didn't take the same approach this game did. The Venom level was way more open to play than anything on Star Fox 64. And the game play is totally opened. You're not forced to go on some path with a few branches.

And the incentive to play harder difficulties because there's actually more to do is just genius.

Real big thanks to Gideon Zhi et al for bringing such a gem into English translation and near-final form.

Umm... I can't get this to work. I need a headerless rom (which I can't find) or a program other than SNEStool to remove the header... any help please?

That's looking really great. Too bad that the game is too easy, though...
