GameFAQs lists a Katamari Damacy 2, so it looks like a sequel is indeed in the works. w00t. Let's hope that we can get 100% of the items before that comes out...

This has to be one of the greatest games of all time. For something so simple it contains hours upon hours of fun, and everyone loves it! I really hope they do make a sequal....and hopefully that will cost 20 bucks too.

Elmo: You might get lucky on this one... Namco accidentally stumbled on a money-maker here so a EU release is possible if they want to make even more cash.

Oh so THAT'S what that Penny Arcade strip meant...oy...

Bumble Ball is like...an old ball that bounced around and had a battery-powered motor in it...a dog would go nuts over it if he doesn't chew it up in one fell swoop, but they were pretty sturdy.

I saw this game being played and all I have to say is . It seems to be a fun party game but not sure how fun it is to play by oneself though. I wonder if other games like it will make it out of Japan...

That aside, I might check this game out since I've been hearing a few people plug it like crazy and I have the Blockbuster gift cards to burn anyway.

I don't really wanna play the game, it looks like it would make me sick within the first 5 minutes of playing it. (and possibly a seizure or two)

It's not out in Europe yet, and with no sign of a publisher *sighs*

I think the single greatest thing I've ever seen is the storyline... your father, the King of All Cosmos, got drunk (again) and lost all the stars. >D

(+3 wino)

Sadly, I am sans PS2, but a friend nearby has one, and the game. MUST. PLAY.

Colin - WOW. I'm glad Rando got it when he did, then. I've heard that a sequel is in the works. Hopefully if this one keeps selling, there will be even more crack in the future.

Hiryuu - What's Bumble Ball? I never heard of it...but I can tell you that this is worth $20. Really. By far.

Valcion - The music is indeed w00t. I especially like the cheesy lounge-style song about wanting to roll you up into the stars (or something along those lines).

On a general note - We (well, Rando mostly) beat the game tonight, but it does have a ton of replay value if you like collecting things. Meeting the ball diameter requirement quickly in certain stages unlocks Eternal mode, meaning that you can roll around as much as you want with no time limit. It's fun to just screw around and see how big the ball can get or try to complete your item lists. The game does keep track of everything you collect, so it's quite tempting to keep going back and trying to catch 'em all.

Yea Colin told me about this or actually he asked what the game was and I went...what? I figured it was some Japanese thing, guess I wasn't too far off when I googled for it shortly after.

I dunno, I guess I'd have to take your word for it...sounds like an action-packed Bumble Ball game or something. And if it's that good for 20 bucks...it'd be about as bad as when I bought Tetris Attack for 20 when it first came out and how long it lasted for me (still going).

Apparently the game sold out in stores, which is pretty unreal for a $20 game. Namco surely didn't expect that.

The even more surprising thing is that everyone finds the game charming. Truly the definition of a "sleeper" title. Heck, if I had a PS2 I'd be looking at a rental to see how "crack"-like it is.

Rando brought this home the other day and all I have to say is...wow. The object of this game is to roll a ball around and collect stuff. The bigger the ball, the bigger the stuff you can get to stick to it. At the end of the level, the king barfs out a rainbow to collect it all. I swear I did not make any of that up.

Sounds like it's good for a 5-minute rental perhaps? Not quite...this game is crack. The simple gameplay is easy to pick up, and what's there is done quite well. First off, the physics seem pretty realistic. For instance, if you have a fence or other large, unwieldy object stuck to your ball, the ball will clunk along instead of rolling smoothly. And though there isn't exactly much depth to the game, rolling around and grabbing stuff is just plain fun. There is an utterly insane variety of things to collect (including people and animals). They're all named, and many of them have amusing reactions to being threatened or captured. If you're small enough, they can bump you around and knock items off the ball, so getting big enough to grab them is an enjoyable form of revenge. Getting bigger changes the feel of the levels. At first, you'll be rolling close to the ground going after tiny objects, but then you grow and the camera begins to zoom out, so you view and navigate the area on a larger and larger scale looking for bigger stuff to capture. Starting from ground level and growing to a point at which you can snag clouds is truly hilarious. And, of course, bizarre characters and music and charmingly inept Japanese-to-English translation only add to the game's appeal.
