If I'm not listening to my personal collection of music I pick a music station from this site. http://www.radio-locator.com/ and listen to that. I like hearing dj's breaking up the music once in a while. Kinda feels like Im having contact with the outside world for a while. lol. |

There are quite a few things that entertain me while I am doing my hacking. Usually, one of the most common things I do here is talk to various other hackers on AIM, sometimes for a little bit of help with my hacking.
Of course, I also like to listen to music from various video games (be them in midi form, or the actual thing in another form such as MP3 or Real Audio). Most of all, I like playing many games, especially my current hack (to test various situations to see how well they fare, and if I'd need to adjust something), and one of my all time favourite games for the PC, Sonic CD. |

Same here, I can't stand not having music in the background. I don't have any problem concentrating; I just kinda tune out the music. Sometimes it gets to the point where I don't even really notice it, it's just not silent. |

for me, its the other way round. coding and analysing code without any background entertainment is way too boring for me. i agree that switching off the music can increase the level of concentration to a certain degree. but i never do it unless im stuck on a difficult bug/problem and i feel like the music is distracting me. |

Well, what I originally meant was something to listen to when taking breaks between hacking. When you just want to sit back and smell the roses for a few minutes. Doing intensive work, such as looking at tracelogs or writing assembly would get damn annoying with music in the background. |

While music or television are cool to have running while doing other things, I find it it extremely distracting while trying to concentrate on programming or hacking. I don't know how you guys stand it. It seems wierd to me, to have to be listening to something while hacking.
I tend to be a deep thinker though, and sometimes the slightest noise can make me lose track of everything.
While I'm doing other things that I do on my computer, such as organizing my huge collection of movies or something like that, I find it very relaxing to have music in the background. |

haha, well said. I'd agree for the most part, just replace mp3 player (i don't have one) with my computer speakers and Pink Floyd. Add in the obligatory background noise of CNN or Cartoon Network, and you've got yourself a deal. |

I crank up the MP3 player and just enjoy it. The raw power of ASM hacking, the ease and fun of level editing, or the beauty of new graphics. ROM hacking entertains me while I'm ROM hacking. |

When I used to rom hack, I'd listen to music ... like everyone else. Mainly vg music, or rock, metal, etc. I'd also enjoy testing the game out every couple of minutes and "ohhhhhh" and "ahhhhh" to whatever I had done. |

When I hack nowdays I always seems to talk to somebody on MSN, or AIM. Always, and quite often I have music on. But sometimes I just prefer hearing silence depending on my mood.
My music is a collection of game music and "regular music". I like listining to the diffrent Command and conquer sound tracks. >.> |

I as well listen to SNES-music when hacking. Thanks to such a wonderful invention like .spc-fileformat and players... Hacking a rom while listening to the most beautiful in-game-music of the current series is really the only thing.... ok... when simpsons or futurama are on tv, that's the oen and ONLY alternative.... at least for my case. |

In DOS, Winamp will often skip and lag like mad, and all that fun stuff.
I just kinda sat in my room working on CMED for an hour or so without any kind of music, as my room at my dad's (where I did it) doesn't have anything I can use.
Of course, I've also worked on it for three hours... |

er...yes, i have. But that's because my speakers were broken on my old computer and i didn't know any real programming languages at the time.
but no music or entertainment.. why? please tell me it's not by choice, that's just silly. |
