i wondering if the legal problem doesnt have to do with the fangames being REMAKES.

I guess the way they see it, is you're offering a game for free that should be sold. Remaking it is pretty close to origonal copyrighting.. I wonder if you were to take those characters, and make an entirely new game, on the same scale, and release that?

Well I'm a member of Zelda Fan Game Central and I kinda have a grasp on what's going on.

1. www.oot2d.com was closed down because of Yahoo thinking it wasnt allowed. Not Nintendo.
2. TRM says that he is rewriting everything to be done in C or something... >.>
3. Cease and Decist letters that TRM has got are said to be fake.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

Because we receive so many similar requests, our general policy is to decline such use of our trademarked and copyrighted material. Although you are not necessarily restricted from going ahead with your game, you are restricted from using our trademarked and copyrighted materials in a way which would suggest sponsorship, endorsement or association of such a service by or with Nintendo.

Thank you again for contacting Nintendo.

I think I will try sending nintendo and Square Enix an email, see if I get a reply, im gonna ask them if they think fan games are ok, and depending on what they say, if i get a reply, will determine whether they got a letter, or faked it....

edit:sent one to nintendo, basically stating that I wanted to start one(I dont actually) and asking them if there was a problem or what. time to go do the same to square.

Meh.

Hype, I hate it.

I never really knew anything about this Chrono Ressurection other than it was being made, apparently not, kind of dissapointing.

I haven't even heard of this OoT2D.

But these things, don't really get my attention. More than likely you'll end up seeing like you guys said articles on "We just didn't want to continue the project." ... etc

Recently I found out that with Halo Custom Edtion work had begun on a custom Campaign that sounded pretty great, well then I read some of the news articles and apparently the people working on the project had called it quits.

So, I don't really get into this kind of stuff other than knowing "it's out there".

Daniel made it pretty clear that Nintendo didn't shut him down, Yahoo just shut his website down. You'd know this if you went to ZFGC. And besides that, it was fake. Always has been. Right now, nobody even likes or believes him anymore, even his best online friend.

And now I need something to finish this post off with... I've got nothing.

You know.. it's really hard to see through these things. It's like.. a fad as of late. I've heard one thing here.. I've heard another thing there...

Like with the Chrono Trigger Ressurection thing.. Someone said that those people just didn't want to finish it, so they just faked up some letter and called it quits.

There's also talk that OoT2D was actually faked photos, just to get some money from donations or something.. And there's also talk that OoT2D did not stop.. the server just happens to be down.. or something... I dunno what to believe.

Don't read the article.. read the comments

*sighs* I wonder if I'd be able to get far with my parody games...

You kinda wonder, even though they do this without intent to sell...if Nintendo is just going to end up using the idea eventually just to be a prick.

I'm not surprised by this at all.

The loss of Chrono Resurrection has dulled me to the pain, at least...

Well that sucks, I was looking forward to it. The demos seemed pretty good, but still a long way to go.
I say he keeps going in private, then releases it when he's done. With no contact info. =D

OOT2D also got a cease and desist letter from nintendo, just like Chrono Trigger Resurrection got one from Square..... I say they should leave people that are doing it with no intent to sell, and let them make the fan game, and if they were going to make it theirselves, then dont worry, I myself would rather play a 2D OOT game on a GBA or DS then on the pc, even if I would have to pay for it...so I say nintendo and square enix, should leave them alone....and anyone else who wants to make a fan game....cause a fan game, would not threaten a major professionally made game because it would be better, and portable.... atleast in my opinion
