There might be some variations to support their standards. Maybe their monitors are a bit different or 2-button mice are uncommon. Who knows? |

I'm not aware of any software being modified due to cultural differences, aside from maybe computer games. Some software, like Web browsers, might be modified to use different encryption or remove classified/proprietary code not approved for export (I believe you're "required" to live in the U.S. to use 128-bit encryption; some programs I've downloaded have included warnings to that effect).
The weird fonts and stuff are probably due to minor interface changes implemented to support the foreign languages (for example, enlarging a text area so accent marks and other non-English characters will fit properly). |

I recently downloaded Adobe Illustrator, in iso format. So I fired up good ol' daemon tools and installed it, all was well. However, one thing was puzzling me. The iso was called adobe illustrator cs me. ME? Whats me? You mean Windows ME? No no no. That would be irrelivent. Turns out, Middle Eastern version. "Welcome to Adobe Illustrator CS Setup - Middle Eastern Version!" I thought, great. Looks like I'll have to get some kind of lang.dll file again. Oh wait. Phew. I can select a laguage. Seems fine, but I still get something that says middle eastern version in the bottom of the loady thingy. So, this doesn't affect anything really, but I'm wondering would this version lack maybe a couple of features, due to like, religion or something? Features that contradict Ala? Seriously. I don't want to lack features, even if they are obscure.
Edit: Here are some minor interface differences, compared with Photoshop. In the palettes on the right, like layers and swatches and stuff, the fonts are a tad strange. They aren't like arabic or anything of course, they just look a bit smushed. Nothing to worry about there. The other thing is in the toolbar. You know how like each tool in photoshop might have sub-tools? Which you would access by rightclicking (or whatever you do with mac peripherals) and selecting from the pop-up menu? Yeah, you have to hold left click over an arrow and the menu pops up in illustrator ME. Its a little annoying, but no problem, once again. So after analysing the interface, it seems good to go. I've never really used Illustrator too much in the past, so I don't really have anything to compare to.
Edit 2: Looked over the keyboard shortcuts. Its got your standard stuff. Phewf, thats a big one I'd be concerned with. |
