I hear ya. You could always do what I do, though, and have all the level ends in sublevels with different, slightly less complex backgrounds...

An oven/freezer world is something I already had planned, but thanks for the specific suggestions. I'll try to make something interesting in that theme when the times comes. I'm not sure if I could pull off a rotten effect, though. But we'll cross that road when we come to it.

Here's some new shots of the tileset in progress.

Here we can see the background. I'm pleased with it, and I don't plan to make too many more changes to it. I may add some texture to the cakes, but I'll see what it looks like before I make any definite decisions. I wish I could have all four frosting colors in the background, but it isn't possible with the way I have the palettes organized. And, I'm not willing to make a background that won't fade out correctly when the level is beat.

And, the new overworld set. It isn't much right now, but I really like how the cakes turned out. Again, I can't use all four cake frostings even though I wish I could, but you gotta work with what you have. I don't really like the color of the ground as it is right now, but I haven't found the color scheme that looks better, so it stays for now. I think I may have to change the angle the cakes are being shown at, but it shouldn't be too hard to fix.

That is a nice idea. I would recommend JJ using this idea as it is good. Nice and creative...

And for mint frosting, I would use a seafoam green. Yours is abit...off.

Other than that this is looking awesome. I love your custom graphics. *waits to see what kind of graphics you will use for caves*

Yes it is looking great.
By the way, it would be nice if one of the worlds was inside a cake, just a suggestion. Like, it'd be a giant cake, the top of it appears in the main overworld (with candles and stuff) and the inside of it, full with delicious stuff in one of the other small overworlds.

That is really awesome. Your graphics aren't realistic which is a big w00t! Very Mario-ish and the level design is looking good. Keep it up!

These new addition look nice...

So it's ideas you want, huh? Well, I think the best world would be an Oven/Freezer themed world. They're not food, but they cook it and freeze it, and you could combine the theme with meat. If you're really good, you could fuse them into one world in a way so that you'd be able to switch between the two similar to how you do in Tiny Huge Island on SM64, and 4-6 of SMB3, making for nice puzzles. For example, you'd get killed trying to swim in boiling water. So you simply use a door or something (perhaps use the warping custom block) and that water turns to ice, then you could just walk across. Or, you could be blocked by frozen food standing on it's end. But with a simple flick of a switch (or entry of a door), it heats up and falls over. It might take some planning, but it'd be damn worth it.

By the way, if you're not going to change the checkered platforms, you could at least decorate them differently for every world. A cheese themed world; for example; could have holes in their yellow checkered platforms, or have cheese smeared all over the sides/dripping from it. The cake theme could have random icing placed on top of it.

I must say, that I can't wait for the next demo of JAMH, keep up the good work and I hope to see more good pics from you soon.

Here we can see the newest frosting palettes. I think these ones are a little more acceptable, but still not quite there. The green needs to be a little more minty, and the others need little tweaks as well. I think I'm going to make mulitple palettes for this set, each having different frosting and cake palettes. Also, we can see the newest candle design. I think it looks a little better with the black lines on the inside, but maybe you don't. Oh, and before I forget, those poles are sorta modeled after those twisty bread things, I don't know what they're called.

BMF:
Syrup isn't really that slippery, is it? However, butter is! Either way, we'll maybe work something out when I get to that point.

Someguy:
That wouldn't be impossible, though it would be impractical. After Yoshi ate a cake piece, the surrounding edges would be completely square, which would look like crap.

Everyone else:
Thanks for the support, and I will keep you updated. Give me input and we'll work together to make this a good hack.

Hey, don't go saying that outloud. I want to have those kind of Blocks, instead of needing to Surround the Ice On Blocks by Ice Off Blocks (it would take less time to use in a Level, and it would use a little less Map 16 Space).

Love the Pankake Idea! And syrup would perfectly replace the Oil graphic, but what would the pipes be for? A pankake factory?*Wonders what kind of levels could be made with his favorite Breakfast*

I loved your first demo! It was very well done, and I can't wait for this one!! That pancake idea you came up with would be very cool, syrup rivers and such would be awesome. I would love to see the overworld for that one!

IMO, what would be better is a custom block that when mario walks on it, it slows him down a bit giving the illusion of sticky syrup. Same with "syrup falls". When you try and swim up them, you have to swim twice as hard as you do when in water, and you would fall slower. A block that does this may be in block tool, under the speed block things.

Good luck with this hack, and hope to see more!

The fact that you showed it with the Sx2salwhatchumacallsit makes it better, it looks even more like a cake.... Too bad there isn't a way to make all the tiles into berry block type things and the berry sprites into wads of cake, so Yoshi could eat the whole level, making for interesting puzzles... but that isn't needed anyway.

OMG. You could make the ground slippery on top of the pancakes. That would RULE.

I could even throw together a little hack that turns on the slippery flag only when Mario touches those blocks, no problem.

It reminds me of that board game on one of the Mario Party games. I think that was for GameCube.
Looks pretty good and I can picture Yoshi devouring it all, heh heh!

You know, the oil set could be used somewhere else... It was a good idea

Maybe feature it in a secret world

Hyper Hacker:
Yeah, I'm still working on the colors of the frosting, I'll post a couple options when I have more time and have you guys help me pick out the best ones.

asdf:
I've been working on the candles for a little while, I've replaced the pink stripes with black stripes, but I'm not sure if that looks any better. I'll post a couple test shots when I'm ready. The texture on the sides is the same general side texture I've always used, but that's only because it works so well for these things. Or, at least, I think so. The frosting looking like the snow is an unfortunate coincidence, though if you compare them side by side you'll notice they are different. And the checkered boxes are the same as the ones in the candy set. I'm not going to change them because that's just how I want all the sets to be like.

Golden Yoshi:
Unfortunately, I haven't made much overall progress in my hack since the last demo. I went over the first world with a fine tooth comb and sifted out everything that needed sifting. I have a couple levels after that, but they were both using the Oil set so they've been scrapped. Making the tilesets is the time consuming part, one I finish up the Cake set and whatever other sets I think I'll need for the next world or two, I'll be able to pump levels out fairly quickly.

That is an incredible tileset! I can't wait to see what other foods you'll include in your hack. How far are you along in the hack, I've been anticipating a new demo for a while .

Very nice cake set! Looks like the evil oil didn't fit into your hack like you thought it would.
