Where can I download this Chrono Tweaker?

I have been reverse engineering the event commands, but it's a lot of work.
I have systematically disassembled about ~100 of them, but so far I only
comprehend less than five.

I'm also not actively doing that.

Ug, that event dissasembly thing sounds tedious and time consuming...
Good luck with it, I'm sure it will be worth it.

It's just a small tool I made to hack some stats and such, nothing grand. I may update it in the future.

[EDIT] Well, this is year later, but in case someone finds this post with a search engine, I add this URL where some information was collected to. http://bisqwit.iki.fi/ctfin/dev/eventdata.xml

Yeah graphics and text are easy enough to hack, but I dont consider those as good.

If you want a hack of the game out, a little elbow grease goes a long way. Make one.

I can do (very basic) enemy script hacks, but a lot is yet to be decoded, like what exactly determines attack order / randomness, and how some enemies target themselves (Cure Beam, etc).

From the sounds of it, it doesnt sound likely that there will be and good CT hacks coming out any time soon.

If you've documented all of them, then someone can turn your documentation into a data file that tells a program how to deal with all of the different event commands.

It is not as simple as you might think. The only way one could do this with Chrono Trigger is if you just listed the raw bytes without translating any of it. That would make for an extraordinarily poor user interface.

With the effort it would take to create a data file format describing every command and its arguments, and a program to understand it, one might as well just hard code it directly into the program. Because the users sure won't be able to make heads or tails of it.

I don't think dealing with all of those would be all that hard. If you've documented all of them, then someone can just pull a Squash Monster and turn your documentation into a data file that tells a program how to deal with all of the different event commands.

The same thing might apply for Chrono Trigger - but on the other hand I think, deeper editing an RPG is far harder, since you have to deal with all the story relevant events, checking the balance or even try to alter the enemy spells.

You are pretty much spot on here. Chrono Trigger has more than 300 event commands, each with its own syntax.

Writing an editor that could properly do all that would probably take about... a year.

Stuff like that is easy to do, copy all Marle's graphics, compress them, place them over another monster's graphics, point all of the replaced monster's "stuff" to that of Marle's and tweak a few things, and boom. Evil Dopleganger hack.

I've touched a few things with it, but that's about it. I wish I could knew more about it. I've spent more time playing around with FF6's events (read: a couple hours), so I'll be of no help there. The only thing I've been able to contribute thus far has been Chrono Tweaker, and yeah, it's on temporary ice. Been kinda busy with real life and other projects to be fiddling around with CT lately. Maybe I'll give it a go in a few more months. Who knows? Thanks for the compliment Lenophis, I appreciate it.
It's not forgotten, just not important right now.

It's not that I know tons about the game, I've just fiddled with what's publicly available.
I'd love to play a CT hack though, text only changes are so....bleh. Not that I wouldn't play a new text only hack, if it were well done.

I'd like to see some more graphics hacks out. I converted the imps into moogles, which was pretty cool, so I know it's very possible with a little effort.

Well at least you came to your senses. I don't forsee any "good" CT hacks until more about the game is known. Too bad CL more or less put Chrono Tweaker on ice for now. That's a good proggie.

I was trying to turn CT into L337 at one time, but then it got kinda pointless... >.>

eeks.. er.. yah i'd agree with you on that. kinda pointless

I got bored of it pretty fast. I started looking for easy ways to do it, but that didnt get very far. Then I just gave up on it. I think L337 is stupid now anyways.

Well, theres 3 hacks of this game that I know of. I have no clue how good they are, what kind of a hack they are or anything like that seeing as I never played them, nor like CT... But if you want, I can *cough*send them via e-mail*cough* if you wanted to try them out. Or I could d/l them and upload them to my site.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
