hopefully it is the capacitor in the power supply and on on your motherboard...i tried a new power supply and i still had the same problems so i dunno... |

or, maybe it has to do with the AGP interface with the computer because there are times I turn on my computer but the screen just doesn't respond. But then again, putting in a PCI video card didn't fix the problem either so. I believe it is BIOS/Power Supply related at this point. |

There are no beeps, you can only hear the fans spinning (and the leds from the case switch on too) and there's nothing but a black screen. I was already suspecting that it could be something with my power supply but I'm not sure, I'll open my PC after the weekend when I get back from my girlfriend and have a clean up to see if that helps. |

Really...cuz I thought if a power supply was worn...it just wouldn't start up a comp, period.

I had exactly the same problem until I replaced my power supply. Try that.
I think computers need a very clean and sharp transition from "off" to "on," voltage-wise, and worn-out power supplies can't do that as well as they used to, so the board gets stuck in kind of a "limbo" state. |

Your PC speaker doesn't by chance beep at all when this happens, does it? If it did a specific type of beep or do you just start up and all you get is a black screen? That could clue you into what's wrong. But then the only thing I could think of down that route would be the beep for RAM errors or something not plugged in right.
If it doesn't...yea...I'd probably think something is wonky with the mobo, possibly a damaged chip or quite possibly something messed with the processor, worst-case. |

something is faulty on the motherboard. I have similar problems to you in that my computer refuses to cold boot (you turn it on after it has been off for several hours).
for me, what I do is turn on the computer, and let it sit for say 5, 10 minutes at the password screen (i set a password on my computer), restart and proceed.
as for resolving it, you can try cleaning the dust out of the computer, investigate the power connection between your power supply and motherboard, and check to see if the CPU is seated cleanly in the CPU seat. |

Sometimes when I turn on the power the fans start running and all but the computer never gets into POST and such, when this happens have to shut down the computer and retry, this can take up to more than 15 reboots before it works, what could be the cause of this problem? |
