The new Emperor scene was good
I'm actually glad that they added that in there. Holy shit that was good!

The Greedo scene still needs to be put back to normal, though.
Yea, and how many times have they changed this freaking scene? How cares who shot first, Han would have killed him first anyway.

Oh, and WTF is with Anakin's ghost? Not cool. Not cool at all.
Ummm..not not really sure how I feel about this. Heh, could have been worse...when Luke took off Vader's helment, it could have been the new Anakin instead of the orginal actor.

Exactly. They're the most referenced movies of all time-- you can barely go a day without seeing some form of reference to it, subtle or not. Like today, I was watching ESPN, and they showed a Red Sox fan's sign that said "May the Force be with us".

True, but I think that since Anakin turned back to the light while an old man, he should appear as a ghost that way.

And, yeah, Episode II blew pretty much. About as much as I. sigh, where can you find good actors nowadays...

I gotta say this...

Fuck Lucas.

Just fuck him!

Ruining classic movies with his shitty special editions...and now making EXTRA special editions for DVD, and never releasing the originals? I hate him. What a disgusting, fat, delusional man.

I'm not even going to see the DVD editions, because I hate the SEs as it is. Everything about 'em, every last added bit... It all sucks. None of its shitty visuals entice me, some parts simply ruin the flow of the movies. Ick.

And fuck Lucas for putting out that atrocity, Episode II: Attack of the Clones. I'm actually quite fond of The Phantom Menace, I'll admit--I seem to be one of few who do. But Episode II is just disgusting in every way. Two things I liked about it (well, three or four, depending on how you look at it): Natalie Portman's erect nipples, and her running around with her clothes all torn up. And two, that big battle at the end was pretty cool, but doesn't justify how bad the rest of it. And the end battle is only cool from a visual perspective (even though a lot of the CGI looks like ass, especially the overly animated Yoda), and 'cos of how crazy it is. Nowhere near as cool as the battles in Episode I though.

I don't even want to see Episode III, but I know I'm going to anyway, and I'm sure in the end I'll just complain and wish I'd never seen it. But I know for sure I won't be seeing the DVD editions of the first three movies, 'cos I'll just end up hating Lucas even more.

On that issue (of "enhancing" movies apart from digitally remastering them), fuck the newer version of ET. I never saw it, but it looked bad. A CGI ET...how horrible. Taking out the guns the policemen were holding (that's what I heard)? Blecht! I cannot believe the idiocy of some people and of filmmakers that like to taint their movies. And I really despise CGI, really I do. It can look good, it can be used for some things, but all in all it's just bad. Why can't people take notice of Henson's Farscape? Masterful stuff! Looks incredible! Puppets, costumes, makeup... THAT's where good filmmaking effects are. The only movie series with CGI characters that look like they're actually a part of the environment is The Lord of the Rings. That's passable and doesn't look too overblown and unrealistic.

I don't know... I'm passionate about these kinds of things, and very picky. Don't hate me for being an occasional asshole and hardpressed to push my opinion.

Oh yeah... Fuck Lucas.

Yeah, of course I'll buy it too, if only for that extra DVD .

I'm perfectly happy with 'em too. Hell, it's his movie, Georges can do what the fuck he want with them, but I did like extras.

I heard about the changes on Slashdot back a few weeks ago, and that's why I've stayed away from the DVDs. I like the original, the way it was ORIGINALLY done. I too was peeved with the change at the end with Anakin's ghost.

Thankfully, Ben picked up the Star Wars trilogy a few years back, on DVD. He picked it up in Malaysia, so of course, it's not "official" -- but it's very good and the best part is, it's the ORIGINAL trilogy, unaltered.

Ah man! They changed it again? Maybe I'll rent it to see what all the commotion is about... >.>

All the special features are sweet but the awful changes to the films are rather unsettling. When it comes to watching the movies I prefer my tapes. Widescreen. THX remastered. Pre-special edition.

Hooray Star Wars. Boo for changing Star Wars.

That is true slaying the sith lord turned him light again. Therefore he should still be an oldman. This is the change I hate the most.

Most of the changes were alright, but I don't know if it was just the DVD player I was watching it on or what, but when the Falcon is escaping from the Death Star, the TIE fighters that Luke and Han shoot down have off-color boxes around them at times. Also, Luke's saber looked green to me for a little bit in the Falcon.

The new Emperor scene was good, and the Jabba was an improvement from last time. The Greedo scene still needs to be put back to normal, though.

Yes, Luke's saber looks green for a few frames in the Falcon (slowmotion it to see it clear), terrible mistake if you ask me !

Anakin's ghost, I agree that the old actor (Sebastian Shaw?) looked better, but this change is logical, when you know what will happen in Epsiode III...

People arent that smart Ziff. There are enough die-hard fans that would buy both boxsets so they'd be making money.

I honestly dont like most of the changes but theres two I can sort of agree with. The fact that they changed the old ugly emperor hologram in ESB and in ANH they made Jabba look a little more real rather then the big eyed bug we got in the special edition.

My copy will be picked up soon, I hope.

I thought the extra features was a bit shorter than they promised (four hours? ). Maybe it's just me, and the fact that the Lord of the Rings special extended editions came with plenty of bonus material for each movie.

Oh well, I managed to get mine for

I'm going to run up and grab mine today. As for being completely happy, yeah you're probably the only one. If you change something as popular and well-known as Star Wars, you're going to have some people mad at you, and I hear he changed quite a bit. I'm sure I'll find a few things I'm not entirely happy with, but hey, it's Star Wars on DVD, and if the changes had been there from the beginning like Lucas intended, I wouldn't even notice.
