I think around 1998 I thought about my old broken NES and the cool games it had. So I thought there might be something on the internet that would let me replay them, I searched and found Emulation.(now I use it for more than playing old favorites though).

About 2 years ago in an after-school class...

My friend approached me and said "Do you have "Game" ((forgot what it is))"
I said no... And he told me there's a way to play it on a PC, and also, get it for free...
I replied with "How"
And then he gave me a floppy disk with an emulator on... I think it was a GB color one...

As well as that, he gave me a site link with roms on... And I used some words I found on the site on google search, and hey presto... It was if I'd taken the red pill all along

"Hmm, I want to play SMW and Super Metroid, but I don't have an SNES anymore. I wonder if I can play SNES games on my PC?"

*google for "play snes games on pc"*

Then I proceeded to download ZSnes and play a bunch of games, which led to me getting NESticle as well.

[major game companies] aren't going to be happy about that.

I got into it from EGM's short on Challenge Games. Somehow I found this place with that and ended up here with a few ROMs.

Oddly enough I used to think that someone had programmed the game for a computer perfectly ^^;; I'm an idiot sometimes...

All I remember is that my "ex" reminded me about emulation. I heard about it before but never tried it .He said he was playing some games and I asked how and stuff and after that I remember lookin' for games and stuff I wanted to play XD.

A friend told me about it when I first got my computer in 98 or 99 but he seemed to be very confused about it,then I did research and started downloading SNES roms like there was no tommrow, really for a year that was all I used my comp for.

Someone (I can't remember who, and I can't seem to find it right now) in here mentioned the Kult of Kefka site. I'd like to make a brief note about how much that site ruled. It had loads of stuff, and sometime last year(?) it just... dissapeared. 'Tis the way of the awesome site, sadly.

Anyhow, it was quite a while ago when I got into the emulation thing. I can't quite remember, but I have reason to believe that I found out about it through my endless Chrono Trigger-related searching. I think I was around eleven at the time. All I can solidly remember is that the first time I played a rom, it was Chrono Trigger. I played it on SnesX, and the frameskip was retarded, but I was so amazed at the possibilities implied that I really didn't care.

About a week later, I got wind of ZSNES and an FF6 rom, and the wonders haven't ceased since.

It was in August 2001 for me when I did "it [emulation] the first time :
In a forum I heard about the way to play SNES games on my computer.
I first though ... "WTF ?" and thought it might be impossible to play games on the PC.
So I did a google search and finally got to a German ROM page and downloaded SNES9x and my first ROM ever (though I had and still the US cart too ^^) and started SNES9x ...
I was impressed but was not satisfied fully with SNES9x ... so I got ZSNES and got far more satisfied and kept it

Ya know, I honestly don't remember. But I know it all started with Snes9x 4 years ago or so.

Mostly from Trunxy/Dogan, and when I found out I could play Earthbound without hooking in my old SNES.

Most of my friends got to know emulation because of me, I showed it to them. Not like they wouldn't have gotten in touch with it without me.

Like ChaosForce, I had been an avid reader of EGM. One day I saw a little box talking about Challenge Games. I had been obsessed that I could play modified NES games ever since (ironically, I got a taste of rom hacking before emulation XD), and to SMB3C, I had to get into emulation, and the rest, as they say (and CF says) is history.

I think my best friend IRL had told me about it. I pissed my pants when I learned what it was, being able to play FF6 on my computer and stuff. This is also how I learned about the other FF games in the series, and found lots of other cool games to play that I never heard of.

Well heres how it happend for me:
There was a strange program on the schools computer, I opened it and it told me to pick a number(1 for smb, 2 for smb2, 3 for smb3, 4 for punch out, ect...) I picked a number and it opened the game in Nesticle, I thought it was so cool because smb3 was always my favorite game back when I was real young, I tryed to save the program to a floppy but it was too big. That day I went home and searched for the program on yahoo, couldn't find it, so I typed nesticle, and my life was forever changed.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
