Well you game playing fools, and i mean that in a nice way. I have downloaded rpg maker xp the trial version. And i have to tell ya its pretty good. Aside from the graphics its realy cool thier is a new addition to the layers its very simular to the panorama system its a fog system that can be used to make clouds if you know how and i have no doubt in my mind that it can be used to do other weather effects thats not to say that thier is no weather effects system in it as is but its pretty cool. Also thier is a 3rd layer, and im sure many of you already know this. Oh and you can put any graphic or tile on any layer this time around. Thier is also customizable transitions but unfortunetly thier are no mosaic or wavy ones just like you can make this odd form of transitions if you want also let it be known that i am planning on ordering it when it comes out later this month, but im sorry but i wont be putting it up for down load or anything like that sorry but i beleave paying for what you want so if anyone wants it you should pay the 109$ and get your own copy. But trust me its will be well worth the money. |

His username starts with "Gandalf", not "gandolf".
Your question was not very clear, and from what I understood it was very well answered. You asked:
Originally posted by mikepjr How do you switch the battle sytem in 2003 and what exactly do you mean?
Then there was some other stuff, and Gandalf answered your question by saying this at the end of his post:
Originally posted by Gandalf The Grey I don't know how and even if it is possible to select the traditional battle system like in RM2k ... I think not; the only thing you can change is the layout of the status bar displaying all important information in battle
If this is not what you were looking for, you could at least reformulate your question so that you can get an accurate answer.

Utilityman, there are still locations in Germany and other countries which do not have the requirements for having DSL, and even for someone with 768 kbps downstream would take quite a while to download 500 megs of a file
As for the default battle system, I never liked RM2k3 (for me the only really convincing advantage would be the increased max number of pictures at the same time), but even for that there is a (German) patch available which raises the number on RMk2; I don't know how and even if it is possible to select the traditional battle system like in RM2k ... I think not; the only thing you can change is the layout of the status bar displaying all important information in battle |

It will probably reduce the amount, but not by much. It will also make it a little harder to find. People who really want it though will probably still be able to get it easily enough. |

Hey gandolf. How do you switch the battle sytem in 2003 and what exactly do you mean? I like 2003 but hate the fact that you have no choice but have the ATB thing i hate that i like turn based battle system kind of like in final fantasy 4. |

Well I think that if you can recode the battle and menu system then that will be rather convenient. I personally like the RM2k3 battle system, but I wanted to make it turn based and have the enemies have their own animations (I don't think either one will be possible in the scripting, but I can at least hope).
I haven't touched RM2K3 in months, so it doesn't matter to me. Now I'm just playing the games. |

Could be, seeing how fast they came up with this one... Whereas they used to leave a few years between each RPG Maker release.
Could be a bit of both actually... |

Ok!
Seeing how they messed up before, I guess it's the 2nd option... |

640x480, a new feature ? Not really, just something they took out after RM95 and eventually readded now...
As for the size and requirements of the program, I guess it's their way of fighting piratage indeed... Either that, or they coded the program poorly. |

The Battle System of RPG Maker XP almost reminds me of the Battle System in Lufia. Where you only see a sprite of the character next to his or her stats. Except in RPG Maker XP it seems like it's a whole drawing, which would make custom characters harder to make, but then again, like Gandalf The Grey said, you can just make your own Battle System. |

Originally posted by mikepjr Im not sure but i think, and hope the battle system is more customizeable and i think that when the enemys attack you can have battle animation unlike 2000s battle system inwitch the enemy would attack and the only thing that would happen was a sound and the screen shake.
In RM2k3 you can already switch the battle system; also animated heroes can be used But as for the battle system, anyone who does not like the default BS, simply makes his own ... like already in RM2k, like in A Gate into Eternity or Kindred SaGa for example |

I think the one thing holding back the RPG maker series more than anything is the tileset limitations. That's the one thing that I never liked about it. |

Don't forget. today's computer suck at 2D operations.
Heck, that's why we need FrameSkip in emulators and such. |

It probably needs those requirements to be able to run everything at the same time. If there's alot of stuff happening at the same time, it will run slow on a computer even if there's no 3D.
Lord Rahl, there's more than two screenshots, the buttons at the top of the page lead to other pages, and each page contains a few screenshots. |

I wonder when this will be released.
The battle system looks like to be like RPG 2000's (which I prefer).
I don't understand why it would require a computer which is that powerful however. The GFX looks impressive... but not impressive to require a computer like that (there's no 3d or anything). |

I think the file size of about 500 megs should also reduce the amount of downloaded copies illegally. Although many people do this with any software in the Internet, there are major differences. RM2k3 including the required RTP has less than 30 megs of size And, yes, the requirements are beefy. But probably this has something to do with the large amount of stuff the game has to handle, such as the higher resolution with more FPS, encoding sound files etc. |

If they had more than two screenshots, I might be able to defend their recommended requirements, which Ultimanium pointed out.
Other than that, the program itself sounds cool. |
