Another one would be to get IrfanView with all plug-ins. That'll save pretty much any graphic type to anything, including icons. Great viewer as well. |

Best and most simplistic icon utility I've found to date is Q-Tam's Bitmap to Icon. Feed it bitmap's to the right size and specify your transparent color or spaces and you're done. Also able to pull from clipboard, bulk convert (with smart-trans checking), and make icon library files. (May need to register for library making, I forget. Mine is registered) |

Ok, so I need an 48x48, 36x36 and 16x16. Can I save the same icon (in the different sizes) as a .icl library. Is that the intended purpose of the icl library? |

Actually, bitmaps and icons are not the same thing. The file format is different, for a start. Also, when you rename bitmaps to have the .ico extension, you might have problems loading them into applications that expect icons to be in the .ico format. Check out this page for more information.
You'd be better off getting an icon editing program and do the conversion properly. |

Ico is the same thing as BMP...
So you just convert it into BMP, and change the file extension. ![](images/smilies/tongue.gif) |

Is it possible to convert a .gif or other common image format into a .ico format for use in vb application toolbars? If so, what program can do this? |
