Actually, I had a floppy drive that had the keying backwards  . So, yeah. For floppy drives, if it doesn't work one way, flip it over.
However, I have yet to see an HD that doesn't work the way it is keyed. If you have a cable that doesn't have this "key" make sure pin 1 of the cable is next to the power--i believe the same goes for the floppy and optical drives as well. |

But because all modern hard-drives have keying for the connectors, as do all recent cables, you have to really work at it (or have an old cable without keying) to get it plugged in backwards -- whereas with a floppy drive, it's rather easy because most floppy drives STILL don't have keying....
Of course, floppies are starting to go away, so it doesn't affect many people anymore, but... that doesn't help people like me who need driver disks during Windows NT/2000/XP installs.  |

No, it was a 3.5 disc drive. I fixed it though. 
The problem was that the cord in the back was upside down. Easy fix. 
Just something to keep in mind if this ever happens to anyone else. |

What is your A drive in this case?
It sounds like an optical (IE CD/DVD) drive of some kind. the only thing I can think of, in this case, is that the drive itself is messed up. It happened to me a couple of times. |

Back in the day when I put a new motherboard in my computer, everything pretty much turned out fine.
Actually, it was a motherboard and a new case. So I had to switch everything over. Everything worked good except for the A:
I click on it, and I can hear the disc spinning but it gives me the message: There is no disc is drive a:
I checked and it said it is working properly and isn't malfunctioning. O_o
I've tried it with many discs, some new, some old but nothing. It shows up as an installed piece of hardware and working properly.
Any ideas? |
