Mel: The pile of money was bigger than the scorpion.

The group soon came to the inn, placed conveniently next to a weapons and armor shop, and an items shop, all marked respectively by large signs bearing a bed, a sword, a shield, and a bottle. The inn was a small, country-style inn like you'd find all over any RPG, yet would never be able to find in real life, with four large, fluffy beds with snuggly comforters all grouped together in a single room.

After taking a small stroll around the room, Mel set his large case down on a bed, distinctly marking it as his. He reached into his pocket, drawing out a handful of coins and tossing them at a short, bald-headed man standing at the door, scattering them all over him. (There had to be at least three times as many coins there was a bill for the room.)

Mel: We were never here. Understand?

Tipping his hat down and giving Marina a pat on the shoulder, he put his hands in his pockets and shuffled off.

Mel: If anyone needs me, I'll be across the street.

Also conveniently placed, across the street, marked by a sign with a mug on it, was a bar.

Marina: We'll be able to sleep comfortably with the money we've found.

Haruko: Oh, yes! It's amazing to see so much gold coming from a dead scorpian!

Jack and Kirbynite sat with their backs to the caravan, starring out at the twinkling sky. They had found a family that were traveling the world in search of new knowledge, and was nicely welcomed. A lot had happened to the worn out children during the passage of time.

After fighting through the Gu Goombas, they were faced with the leader of the human ranch and a gruesome monster. The battle with the monster only led to more pain and misery when it was discovered that the monster was Marble, the old lady Jack had befriended at the ranch.

Marble regained control of herself and attacked the ranch overseer, Forcystus. Forcystus was badly wounded while Marble was reduced to ashes. Jack mourned the loss of his friend, and made a promise as he held Marble's only remains, the exsphere.

After the Gu Goombas carried their leader to safetey, the mayor banished Kirbynite from the village. Since the poor pink creature was the target of the Gu Goombas, and ridding their reason of attacking would've been for the best interest of the village. Jack demanded he'd be banished too, since he had also broken the law as well.

Kirbynite: It sure was a hell of a way to get a reason to follow Haruko. *looks at Gustman*

Gutsman: Guts.

Kirbynite: Maybe the Professor can take a better look and improve on what Big Sis did.

Since we need to kick this story in the ass and get it moving, the group of Mel, Haruko, Fem, and Marina strode into the desert oasis town - which, as expected, had various palm trees, sand-colored adobe buildings, and lots of camels and people in turbans.

It was now night-time. The desert sky was completely clear that night and littered with stars. Mel adjusted his hat and glanced around the streets set before them at the city gate.

Mel: I suppose we should find the inn.

Kirbynite: Damn Gu-Goomba Bastards!

Jack: How could they do something so horrible?

Kirbynite: I don't know, but we've gotta get everyone to safety and drive the Gu-Goombas away!

Kirbynite and Jack were doing their own Gu-Goomba bashing. They marched their way to the village's entrance, while picking off the stray soldiers who were attempting to start more fires.

Zap finally spotted a clearing in the trees up ahead, and through it he could see smoke and ash rising from the burning buildings. He slowed his pace down tremendously so that he could retain enough energy to be able to help out with whatever was happening to the town.

He brushed his way passed a few low hanging branches then jumped out into the town square, right on top of a random Gu-Goomba, knocking it out. Zap got up, caught the rest of his breath, then looked up to find Teddylot already terrorizing the unsuspecting Gu-Goombas with his staff which was now taking the form of a stop sign.

Mel didn't even need to consult a map. He pointed in a southwesterly direction.

Mel: The oasis town is that way. If we hurry, we'll make it in time to spend the night there and set out early next morning.

Jack: Where's Haruko!? Did she tell us the wrong time!?

Gyromite: Ah.. ahem... Haruko asked me to give this to you.

Jack approached the dining room table, where Haruko's father had pointed out a letter that was left behind. Jack picked up the letter and began to read it out loud.

"Dear Jack,

By the time you read this, I will have already left on my journey. I'm sorry for lying to you, and to Kirby. The world regeneration journey is full of peril. Many Chosens have failed.

I care about you too deeply to let you get involved."

Jack's face was going through a mixture of feelings. The latest one was a bright red.

"I'm going to do my best to stop the monsters and the Gu-Goombas, so I want you to live a happy and peaceful life in the regenerated world. Thank you so much for your friendship and kindness all these years. I'm really lucky to have met you.

Farewell, Haruko."

Kirbynite: ... Erm... Mr. Gyromite..

Jack: What the hell? This almost sounds like a will.

Gyromite: Well.. I suppose it.. *clears throat* There is something we hid from you and the entire village.

All of a sudden, the conversation was interupted by the sound of a building collapsing. Kirbynite ran over to the door and swung it open.

Kirbynite: Holy cucco! The town's on fire!!

---------------

Gu-Goomba D: Burrrrn, baby burn!

Gu-Goomba E: Disco Inferno!

Kirbynite was right. The village's entrance was swamped with Gu-Goombas, while a few stray soldiers were setting fire to some buildings.

((Have no fear, for I am here.))

Teddylot and Zap charged through the overgrown underbrush and around the scattered trees. They were taking a shortcut through the woods to catch up with their fellow party members. Zap was quickly stuffing his backpack with extra clothes and some useful gadgets they might need on their journey. Teddylot took the lead, his position only known by his staff poking from out of the tall grass. In his hand, he held a huge stack of printing paper, binded together by some twine.

Zap: Are you sure you're supposed to be looking at that? Looks spoilerish.

Teddylot: Kidding me? This script is the reason why we haven't been completely left behind yet. Now, let's see. *flips a few pages* Wow, this information will certainly help in the-- GAH!

The printing paper, as it tends to do, broke out into flames right in the bear's hands. Zap ignored the event, instead pulling out a rough map of the surrounding area.

Zap: Haruko's house is about a half-mile stretch away.

Teddylot: QUICK! Two-minute pace!

Teddylot picked up the speed considerably and before Zap was able to see what his bear friend was up to, he had almost lost sight of him.

Zap: *speeds up* Good thing I'm a runner.

((Blargh.. what happened to the large amount of people posting here long ago? ))

Haruko: *Thinks to herself*~... But I still feel bad...~

Marina: We should stop by the oasis town for some rest and to check to see if we have enough equipment on us.

Fem: I agree. That would seem to be a good idea.

Marina casually casted a fireball spell and singed an oncoming scorpian. She squinted her eyes and tried to look into the distance for the location of the oasis town.

--------------------------

After a bit of rampant running, monster slashing and burning, Kirbynite and co finally made it back to the village. With a bit of panting and feet dragging, they made it to Haruko's house.

Jack: I hope Lucca was wrong...

Kirbynite: *knocks on the door* ....

Mel strode along behind the three, carrying a very large, rectangular black case in one hand, which dangled beside him as he walked.

Mel: We all know that the journey's going to be that much quicker if we don't have to look out for a bunch of kids along the way.

OoC: And Fast Forward we shall have.

-------------------

Jack: Kirb.

Kirbynite: I'm sure we'll find it!

Jack: We spent all morning looking for it! How long ago did it fall? It's probably washed down to the river by now!

Kirbynite: No worries!

Jack: What do you mean? We gotta get to the village by noon!

Lucca: Kirby..

Kirbynite, who was hunching over the tiny stream near the house, turned to see Lucca standing by the door. He looked to the side before walking towards her.

Lucca: I made the crest for you.

Kirbynite: You... YOU DID?!

Lucca: Yeah..

Kirbynite: Oh! Thank you so much, Big Sis!

Kirbynite lunged towards Lucca and tried to hug her as much as he could.

Lucca: Hey hey hey! That doesn't mean I'm completely cooled off! I mean.. You're gonna go off and such..

Kirbynite: Don't you worry, Big Sis. I promise I won't let you or dad down.

Lucca: I know you won't. But... Kirby.. Why are you all still here? My village cam noticed the Chosen's group left at dawn.

It was at this moment, Jack flipped out.

Jack: Haruko already left?! I thought she said--

Kirbynite: What in the heck? Why are we still here? Green!

Green: Yoshi!

Kirbynite: Let's go!

Jack: We should check with Hector before we figure out anything else.

Kirbynite: Good idea.

Lucca: I'll send Gutsman to the village after I finish up the diagnostics check. You might need him along the way.

Kirbynite: Stop reading the script, Big Sis.

Lucca: Us geniuses have to keep that omniscent vibe going, right?

Kirbynite: ...

Lucca: I just read a few pages, ok? Now go to your friend.

Jack: Don't have to tell me twice.

----------------------------------

Haruko: I feel kind of bad...

Haruko, along with Fem, Marina, and Mel, were walking across some flat plains. There were patches of sand hidden throughout the grass. The amount of ferocious bunnies and murderous hawks were decreasing while venomous snakes and pinchy scorpians seemed to appear more often. It was quite apparant that they were getting close to a desert.

Fem: Don't feel so, dear.

Marina: Yes. It was for the best. The Chosen's journey should not be delayed as much as possible.

Closing the door of his small hotel room, the cloaked figure, now known as Mel, removed his hat, setting it down on the bed beside him. He squatted down and pulled a large, rectangular case out from under the bed, and popped the twin latches holding the case closed. He lifted the cover, placed his gun inside, and shut the case, locking it securely and sliding it back under the bed. He moved his hat to the nightstand beside him, and laid on the bed on his back, quickly falling asleep.

FAST FORWARD TO NEXT DAY OMG OMG

Jack, standing on the balcony, waved his hand at Haruko as she and the others walked towards the forest. As soon as they were gone...

Kirbynite: Whoo! I can't believe it! We're gonna go! And we didn't have to come up with any plans! *looks up at the moon* Tethe'alla looks quite nice tonight...

Jack: Do you think Lucca can fix up Guts?

Kirbynite: Of course! She can do anything!

Jack: *dull look* Of course you say that, but remember Gato?

Kirbynite: ..... I thought it was the Professor who took him out by trying to over examine him.

Adjusting his hat, Mel swiveled around and walked off, shotgun over one shoulder, and his coat flowing in the breeze.

Mel: I'm staying at the local inn. I'm ready to leave whenever you three are, so don't hesitate to come knocking any hour.

Marina bowed her head in return.

Marina: Well, incase you missed my name, it is Marina Liteyear. I'm positive you will be envied by other mercenaries; coming in at the right time to be hired to look after the Chosen.

Fem: Yes. Both of you were extremely lucky to have this happen.

Marina: Hmph. As long as I'm paid, I do not care for how well known I become for escorting the Chosen.

-----------------------

Haruko: I'm glad I was able to live up to this day..

Kirbynite: Eh?

Jack: What are you talking about? You're going to keep on living and regenerate the world.

Haruko: Oh, yeah.

Kirbynite: Sorry for interupting.. but..about us coming along..

Haruko: .. The Gu-Goombas are going to be after us.. so.. it's going to be a dangerous journey.

Kirbynite: .. Gu-Goombas... I always thought my dad died in an accident.. But he was murdered by them! I can't live in the same area as a village that has a treaty with them.

Jack: *nods* Kirb's like my brother, and finding out about that bothered me too. And besides, Haruko... I..

Haruko: ....We're leaving at noon tomorrow. Would you two come to the village around then?

Kirbynite: Heck yeah!

Jack: I'll be able to see you become more of.. er.. become a real angel with my own eyes.

Fem: Hey! We're about to head back to the village. The Chosen needs to have her sleep.

Haruko: Oh! Yes! I'm coming!

Kirbynite: G'night.

Jack: I'm going to stay here and look for the present. I'll see you tomorrow, ok, Haruko?

Haruko: Alright... Goodbye..

Figure: My presence here is not a matter of money. Rather, it is over the lack of interest involved with most armed escort assignments. And as I already said... I do not have a name associated with my being.

He sighed.

Figure: But... if we are to be traveling companions for such an extended period of time, then a name would be most appropriate.

The man removed his hat, and made a half-bow to Marina, before rising back up and planting the headgear firmly on his head.

Figure: Call me Mel.

Marina: Of course. Why else would a mercenary like you come all this way, right "Mr. Gun"? Or do you have a name other than the one the child made up?

---------------

Kirbynite: Hey, guys! Did you find it yet?

Jack: Er...

Haruko: Nope. We're still looking for it.

Kirbynite popped his head into the room on the second floor.

Jack: How could it have been lost? I mean, it was on that stool by the window.

Kirbynite: ... Gack! I've been meaning to tell you this, Jack, but.. Eh heh.. I kinda knocked it out the window...

Jack: What?! Why are we still looking for it here!?

Kirbynite: About that... It fell into the nearby stream, eh heh..

Jack: ....

Haruko: Could you just wish me a happy birthday instead, Jack?

Jack: I.. sure. Happy Birthday, Haruko.

Haruko: Thanks

Picking himself up and brushing himself off, the figure reached to his side and retrieved his gun, then adjusted his hat with one gloved hand. His glasses slinted in the bright sunlight, and he swiveled on his heels, turning to face the ocean as he rested the barrel of his gun on his shoulder.

Figure: The mayor has conscripted me into joining you and Miss Haruko.

Lucca: *panting* I'm sorry.. I just thought..

Kirbynite ran to the front of the house to see what had just happened.

Kirbynite: Um.. Big Sis, this guy doesn't have any fur on him.

Lucca: ... Eh heh heh.. yeah, I realized that now. Kirby! No breaking the fourth wall!

Kirbynite: You started it! Hm? Why's everyone going inside? Guess they wanted to see what was gonna happen with Gutsman... oh well. I'm gonna go bug Jack and Haruko.

Kirbynite ran inside the house. In the meantime, Marina stepped away from the grave and walked towards the front of the house. She looked down at the figure on the ground.

Marina: Am I to assume you do not have luck with normal folk? *looks at Lucca* Kirbynite.. He called you "Big Sis"?

Lucca adjusted her glasses and glanced at Marina.

Lucca: Yes.. I looked after him after his parents passed away.

Marina: I see..

Janus looked down at The Figure with a slightly bewildered expression on his face, and prodded him a few times with his foot. Shame....

Janus: "Man, that's taking the term "Fanboy" to new levels..."
