You're joking right?
From the looks of it, it's not as challenging as you claim it is... But I can however, understand if it is your first hack.

I hate to say it but I don't see any real care in those screenshots. It looks rushed and botched together, and a tad empty too. Probably good for a first hack though.

This might not be a bad time to tell you - no one likes it when they die just because they guessed wrong.

Also, your post layout is almost totally illegible; I need to select your posts to see what you're saying.

I never said you need a star + floating Mario cheat to beat it, I said I did something that makes it tricky even for bigtime cheaters. If you wanna try out that secret area, I'll tell you people where it is. On the small island, go to the far left, there's a fish guarding a hidden pipe. Stand on that area in the water when the fish is away from the edge of the screen, and press down. You'll enter a hidden pipe. The first area has no enemies, isn't glitchy, it just requires a lot of exploration and some thinking. And remember, that P-Switch you get is there for a reason. Figure it out. Since it's the first area in that world, I don't think it's be nearly as frustrating dying there as it would be anywhere else. The next room is pretty much a guessing game, find the right paths to the exit through pipes, or you die. (There's a minor bug I noticed I forgot to fix, I put the entrance to the death room at the wrong part, so instead of Mario falling out of a pipe into his death, he appears in a wall which kills him. ) Sorta like russian roulette, but dying here isn't as bad either, since if you know what to do in the first room, that first room will be pretty easy. The next room is also a puzzle, but it has something similar to a leap of faith in it. And there's a light switch at the beginning, just incase none of you noticed.

Looks Ok, I can't see any bugs there

The OW doesn't look good and it's only this platform, it's too small and a palette problem is there, too.

Looks good, but too empty. I see only a fish.

It looks horrible, the big bush isn't in the right position and the vine is above the big bush, not good.

The palette isn't good and the screen is too empty, too. I only see a Pokey, no other enemies.

This looks Ok, but can be better.
all in one, your hack isn't good and I maybe won't download it, do some ExGFX and look after gltiches and bugs, then release a demo.

How is it nightmarish? I haven't played this hack, nor will I, and want to know. You edit the soundtrack and make a on/off light switch hack for something gruesome in the background or something?

Ok, thanks. Oh, and I'm just wondering what you people might think about the secret world I've included. It shouldn't be too hard to find, but since this is sorta like the big secret in the game, I decided to make it a little horrifying, even to those who use the star + floating Mario cheats.

Try going to the ExGFX Workshop. There are plenty of free ExGFX there.

Anyway, I played you're game a little more...

I played the ghost part. I noticed at the end there is some weird glitch sprite, kinda resembles the body of a gray Big Boo. Also, yet another leap of faith, as you need to jump to find the pipe. Next room in Ghost World... Fishin' Boo + Reappearing Ghosts = Super Difficult. These are the two of the hardest enemies in the game, because they follow you all over the place.

Also, there was the one part with the water tides. Some mistakes here:
1. The tides are behind layer 1, that doesn't look good. Go into change properties in header and force layer 3 above all other objects.
2. You shouldn't have vertical scroll in a level with layer 3 tides, they rise and drop unpredictably and that's annoying.
3. That fast auto scroll is way too hard. I don't believe it should ever be used, number 1 because it is way too fast, and number two because it can prevent you from jumping if you get caught on the left side of the screen.

Don't use the slippery feature with desert or grass levels, use them in ice levels or maybe wet type levels.

There was one room with auto scroll and Dino Torches. Those diagonal ledges with the clouds underneath are ugly. Don't use ledge tiles with other objects such as clouds, ropes, logs, etc. underneath them.

I think that's all. Hope that helps further.

There are some ExGFX tutorials, if you'd be willing to learn it. It always adds a nice graphical touch.

There is room for MUCH MUCH MUCH improvement in this hack. Where do I begin...

Level of difficulty: Okay, this seems to have been a misconception between the author of certain hacks and the players. I have seen dicussions between the authors and players where the players complain about the extreme level of difficulty, whereas the author contests this and says that the game is very easy and he/she has beaten it several times. You have to keep in mind that YOU have created this hack, so you know every little trick, every little special jump, every little secret location in order to defeat the game. Thus, it will be easier for YOU to beat the game and not the players, because they are unaware of every little trick you have created.

Now, I know you said this was a skill tester, but take for example, the Jungle World. There is a part where you are high up on the vines, and you must jump back down onto a vine. This isn't necessarily a skill, mostly a blind guess to where the vine is. If you're guess is inaccuarate, it costs the player a life. You don't want to have the player blind guess at something and lose a life, maybe try having a different type of penalty, like putting ground underneath that vine and having the player climb back up the vines and trying again.

Okay...enough with the difficulty of the hack...

Title Screen: You can edit the moves of the title screen. Take advantage of it. Having Mario jump around in a cubicle isn't entertaining. Also, the lightning bolt fire goes off the logs of the boat and float in mid-air, you want to watch out for this.

Desert World: Do not use glitched objects/sprites. That is my biggest turn-off about hacks and it makes them seem less professional. It isn't too major here, but do not use the water with the strange surface.

Jungle World: Already mentioned the bush/vine issue. Try not to use 1 block long vine tiles. They are to hard to grab onto, players will likely miss these. Also, a palette error in the BG, look at the top of those green hills, you'll see. Change the BG palette.

Ghost World: Bad blue palette on the ceiling ghosts. Go into the change palettes and use a different sprite palette. Also, try not to have the player go too close to the ceiling in the ghost ceiling levels. The player will inevitably be hit.

I hope I don't seem to be rambling or discouraging you. I'm just trying to offer as much advice as I can, so that you can make this the best hack possible. Good luck!

Yeah, that thing in jungle worlds is a bit of a leap of faith thing, I might try to change it around. I'm not too good at graffics though, maybe I could use a lil help.

And about the difficulty, some things DO require a lot of exploring, some of the people who tried out my hack managed to find certain things after being a lil persistant, but I might try to ease down the mayhem on this a little.

And about the ceiling ghosts, no, you can avoid em. I have, others have, it's all about being quick and not letting them gather up too much. The level after that is all about good good timing, and although this might sound a lil grim, a lil bit of luck.

And on the desert world, I haven't really noticed any glitches on objects or sprites. And that yellowish water is supposed to be something like quicksand, but I dunno how to get the Bros 3 quicksand into this game, so I just used yellow water instead.

But thanks for the tips, I'll take them into good consideration.

*Sigh* Yet another "Challenge Hack". Even worse, it's glitchy!
BTW: BMP sucks. Use JPG or PNG for screenshots.

Though I do like the idea of having ghosts in the sky.

Yeah, some parts look a little plain, I just tried to make this as much of a challenge hack as I could and didn't concentrate very much on graphical quality. I'll probably make a small revision later on, with better looks and such. Right now, the current one is overall a skill-testing thing.

There are minor graphical glitches in the second, fourth, and fifth screenshots.

Its an interesting hack concept.. I may play it later, but I am a bit busy.

Title Screen, Mario in his boat.

Map Screen

Small Island in the Bermuda Triangle

Jungle World

Desert World

Ghost World

3 worlds? Search carefully, and you might find a nightmare! Questions and comments are great and appreciated, although I'm not giving clues to beating levels. This game is relatively short compared to the original SMW, but it's not the easiest game in existance. XP

MANY THANKS TO Nap FOR HELPING ME WITH THE IPS PATCHING AND BEING THE FIRST PERSON TO TEST MY GAME OUT!

And here's the IPS patch!
