What I'm curious about is if there's going to be just as many endings to this game as the 2nd one had. What was interesting about the second one was that all you had to do was mess up just one part of a character's storyline, and you would get an entirely different ending. But the replay value to this game (SO3) should go through the roof considering the extra features it will have.

It's more like the Chrono series. They all have the same world (where FF doesn't save for X and X-2 does not) but you can still play through them and not miss any pertinent information. Playing the previous two just gives you a better understanding of the world and it's history.

While they don't require prevoius knowledge, they kind of tie into each other...at least the first 2 did.

Star Ocean - Ronixis Kenny featured
Star Ocean 2 - Claude Kenny a main character, son of Ronixis Kenny.

So they're more...connected than the FF Series.

And here I am looking to download Star Ocean 2. Me so far behind in the game...

Sofie: I'm pretty sure the Star Ocean games are like the FF series - no previous knowledge required.

I have been in love with this game ever since I first heard it was going to be made...I immediately went and put it on reserve...two years ago.

I loved Star Ocean 2. The characters, the multiple endings, and the private actions before heading into towns...I wanted to play Star Ocean on an emulator..but messed up on it somehow and it wouldn't play.

So here's to hoping it actually will come out on it's set date this time.

The game looks good so I may actually try it when it's out.

I don't believe so because Star Ocean 2 was released in the US without previously having Star Ocean 1 (for the SNES) released.

This will be the first Star Ocean game to be released in Europe, I think.
It'll be the first I'll see for sale legally, anyways.
Do the stories of previous games need to be known for this game?

Good fucking god, I've been waiting for this game for YEARS!

I remember when it was suppose to be released January.....of LAST year. Ugh.

But finally it's soon upon us. Again.

I'm a huge fan of Star Ocean 2 and this one looks like it's going to be even better. Definitely on my list.

Yup, this is another game on the to buy list. I have the Japanese version but *ahem* I can't understand it

anyways, if the US release contains the director's cut, then it is worth the wait

I'm buying. There's very few games I actually end up buying, but the cute art, and now the news of a multiplayer mode has made up my mind completely. At least no one will have to worry about my christmasgift XD

Ive waited for this since September of 2003, Im definatly buying it August 31st.
And its well worth the wait since Americas Star Ocean 3 is actually Japans Star Ocean 3irectors cut, jam packed with special features!

From what Ive heard the Battle Systems is the game strongest feature, allowing for real time combat and the ability to switch control over to any party member. The story for the most part is also good, telling a tale of war magic and destiny in a sci fi setting. Another GREAT feature is versus mode. Thats right a versus mode in an RPG. Im not sure if you can upload stats from memory cards and fight your friends who also have the game (I hope so!) But there will definatly be a Versus mode that lets you pick nearly every fighter in the game.

Now for the bad. Items cannot be purchased. Instead players must gather materials to make EVERYTHING! Also Ive heard that the music makes your ears bleed, but Im a little skeptical about that. The previous Star Ocean had great music, and Ive never played an RPG with music that bad.

Even though those may be big set backs Im still excited as ever to get my hands on Star Ocean 3

I did play star ocean and I thought it was fun, to bad I didn't beat it. So I might look into this game and maybe rent/buy it, but isn't it supposed to be like really long.

(If there's a thread already on this, by all means, close it. )

Man, this game has been delayed for far too long -- it's final scheduled release date is August 31, 2004. Personally, I can't wait -- I've seen a bunch of movies and screenies on this game, and I must say I'm impressed with the way things look. Japan had released the game in late 2002, but had run into some hardware problems with the game, so they had to "pull" it and "redo" it. After releasing the game officially, later on, they had made a "Director's Cut" version which had a lot of extra stuff not implemented into the original game. Now, when the game is released in the states, the game will not only include the normal game, but the "Director's Cut" features as well!! One feature of the Director's Cut is that it has a multi-player mode, which is not seen in very many RPGs. In short, I think this is going to be the best Tri-Ace game yet.
