Great, glad to hear it. 
And yeah... Windows can't *always* tell exactly what's wrong if there are driver issues, because if it's a driver-related problem, the driver's usually sending back faulty data to Windows. |

It worked! Thank you, It's so much better being able to listen to some music!
Edit: Funny how none of the fixes writen in the Version History were actually corresponding to what Window actually said. Anyway, it seems like my older version of sound driver has been change, for the better. |

Okay, go here, and download the multilanguage version (I'm assuming that you'd want to use French, if you've got a French version of Windows  ), read the ReadMe file, and follow its directions.
Hopefully, installing the latest drivers should fix the problem. |

I founded out something else strange (I'm 100% sure it's related to my problem). When I boot Windows, at one of the Black Screen with white text(after Windows 98's logo), there is writen (7 times): Too much parameters. |

You can't, unfortunately. 
I have computers with the German version of 98SE... but I'm not sure how well the stuff there correlates with the French version.... 
Do you have the manual for your motherboard?
If so, does it tell you the chip model # for the sound chip? (Should be a 5 digit number, if I remember VIA's model numbering system correctly).
If you can find that for me, I can find the correct drivers for you, and we can go from there. |

Which version of Windows do you have? (For future reference).
In 2000/XP:
There's a "Drivers" tab in the properties sheet for each device, the version number SHOULD be there.
In Win9x:
I can't remember where exactly it is, but it's in the properties sheet somewhere.  (It's been a while since I've used 9x ). |

You'll need to find that out then.
Where's the device manager?
Depends on your version of Windows.
For 2000/XP, right-click on "My Computer", click on properties, change to the "Hardware" tab, and there's a button to get the Device Manager from there.
For Win9x (including ME, I believe... but I've never used it personally so I can't guarantee this ), right-click on "My Computer", and one of the tabs (I forget the name, but it should be obvious) is the Device Manager. |

I believe it's safe to assume that everything's plugged in correctly, speakers are turned on, sound isn't being muted by Windows, the volume isn't set to 0, and Device Manager isn't showing any problems with the sound chip?
If all of that's true....
What's the motherboard, and what version of the drivers are you using now? |

What kind of malfunctioning?
Does it making some kind of popping sound during playback, is it all distorted, or does it not play back at all? |

As the title says, I have problem with my sound drivers. I have VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM) and it says that it's active but malfunctionning. So any one got any idea of what the hell could be wrong. I'm currently trying to fin some drivers. |
