That...was Beautiful SePH....Beautiful

No, really, I liked that speech....or whatever you want to call it.

I havn't been around for a LOOOOOOONNNNGGG time because I got eventually fustrated with alll the errors HM was causing, but I have decided to spot pouting about it and pop in z3 hacking every now and then.

Not really cancelled. What was lost really: Nothing. I simply ported everything I did over two hacks. One have almost all my best dungeon rooms while the other have all my overworlds and even better areas. Yup yup. ==

Look forward Parallel Worlds (My hack combined with Euclid's) in really not much time for now. I'm finalizing my overworlds in three days (Yeah I have a tight schedule ). Then I'll do the sprites for the overworlds and a few other things that need to be fixed.

I would still like to use my inventory system through. Euclid will decide whether he keeps his or mine. As for the overlay (Hearts and rupee system) I clearly prefer Euclid's.

And another hack which was almost finished a while back. But never had a chance to speak with it's author again about it. I made both most overworld places and some dungeon rooms. But the dungeons themselves and puzzles were made by the mastermind behind the project himself. It happened I would have liked to do a collaboration project with that person earlier but that didn't happened until he started a sample story and overworld scretchs. Look forward that "Mysterious Project" which the author decided to keep as a surprise. I won't reveal his name yet either. It's been a great project together, that I can confirm through. So look forward to it.

Also there's so many other hacks out there that deserve attention. Dark Prophecy clearly shown it had potential straight from the beginning. It's authors really pushed themselves to make it happen. We all know the story, first, Omega started a small demo meant for fun and testing purposes only. Much later it happened to be something clearly different. He joined forces with the guy who would later become the ultimate creative dungeon designer to date, Dude Man. I can't wait to see what the core group behind the project (Omega,Dude Man and Mathonapkins) will do next. These guys won't stop after one project. Dark Prophecy is just the beginning.

Then have we all forgotten about NEONswift's first demo: Dodongo's Gold? Back when the time there was nothing except Quest For Calatia in the works. People were eager to play something. And thanks to this man, we were finally able to play something as long as a beginning dungeon. A demo that happened to be the best one back when Euclid released his long demo. It's ingeniosity was among the best. Unfortunately much later we heard the truth, this guy had an hdd failure and lost all of it's work in progress hack. The horror.

Today I'd say I'm the happiest man on earth to see that he's starting from scratch again, that's a courageous feat in itself. Especially when you lost so much content in the process. But I have faith that NEONswift's Forsaken War will be one badass hack to play when it's done. (Even the title is kickass )

Also an honorable mention goes out to Gamemakr24 who's been here since the very beginning. Started everything from the basics. The basics we would see in an original game itself. Doing everything on paper, doing his own graphics and also one badass of a story that have it's place along other zelda games. He's a genius. One of a kind. Someone that does everything his own way. Even program himself tools to help with the game manegement. That's something when you think about it. Quest For Calatia wait has been eternal. Much like if it were a Zelda game created by the Nintendo team himself.

Well to sum it up, there's a lot of Zelda 3 hacking still going on. We don't see news of it everyday but it doesn't mean that this community is dead yet. A friend of mine even shown interest in picking up an old forgotten hack again. Even through I cancelled it, it were a group hack afterall, so he's free to continue it if he wants. He felt like he'll finish it during his daylife. Even if it would take many years to accomplish. I appreciate that. I won't really spoil the fun of him, telling people what he intents to do with the project through as I feel it's time for him to do have his own decisions like we all did in the past.

Hacking a game isn't easy. There are many downs and problems that can happen in the process. That's life.

Well I hope you read it all, as much as I enjoyed writing it. That's my personnal point of view of these hacks. It's about time people play full hacks of a game such as Zelda 3. Within a few months/days(??!) j/k not days yet it'll be fullfilled. Until then all we can do is wait and see

So I'm looking at the project roster, and I see Gates of Time is suddenly cancelled!

What happened? I was looking forward to that one. The graphical hacks were neat, but here it is dead in the water with no warning or notification or anything!
More importantly, why spend all that time coming up with a new, working HUD if you're never gonna use it now?

Sounds good. Hope you get the game working and finished, and good luck with your midterms too.

Umm, Dark Prophecy is going well. I think its relativly on schedule for a december release (possibly later depending on story adjustments and new events). We just need to solve a major problem. The game is spread across 3 roms currently, and we are going to need to combine em. However, due to limited space in the Zelda 3 rom, there is not enough room for all the material. We have a solution, but it will require some skilled work and lots of time, of which i am short ATM (midterms tomorrow). The good news is, after tomorrow i am free to work on it for a good 5 days straight. Once its done, things will really get rollin.

If you were fishing for pics, sorry, i dont think we are releasing any new pics for a long time, if at all. I might start a log about the game if someone wants to supply web space though. If your interested in hosting, PM me.

Not entirely on topic, but I've been trying to get what information I have on Zelda 3 up on WikiRAM - http://www.infinines.net/wikiram/index.php/The_Legend_of_Zelda_A_Link_to_the_Past. So far I've just got the ROM addresses of the pallates, a bunch of the graphics sections, and a few subroutines used for drawing all the status info on screen, as well as a handful of RAM addresses. If you need information, or have some to share, check it out.

Well okay. If you could give me at least four pictures I would gladly update the thread. I recon that I could update it all because most links/pics are outdated anyway. I'll work on that later tonight. you could just post your pics in there and I'll edit the first post to included them

So has there been a LoZ 1 remake using LoZ 3? It seems so obvious, which might be why I haven't found a mention of it; it'd just be ubiquitous.

I just discovered this whole Z3 hacking concept, and I'm amazed. One question though. A lot of the links and downloads put up over a year ago are long gone. Where can I find the newest version of HM?

You see in that pic, changing the grass palette only affects the overall surrounding. But the tiles of the trees/flowers etc... remains with that green palette. I wish I could have a more distinctive palette for my volcano area, but this is not possible because of that.

d4s to the rescue!
the grass color is hardcoded and different depening on the current enviroment.
no matter how long youre gonna search the palettes, you wont find it.
that wasnt a good suggestion, neonswift.
look for code that first does

ldx #$2669,

then writes this to $7e:c500.

$2669 is the color value.

this is where the normal light overworld color is loaded: SNESLO $0B/FEA9
just change it to any color you like.
im sure you can find the rest yourself.

heres the code snippet for that:

$0B/FEA8 A2 69 26 LDX #$2669 A:002C X:0000 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEAB A5 8A LDA $8A [$00:008A] A:002C X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEAD 29 40 00 AND #$0040 A:002C X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC
$0B/FEB0 F0 03 BEQ $03 [$FEB5] A:0000 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdiZC
$0B/FEB5 8A TXA A:0000 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdiZC
$0B/FEB6 8F 00 C5 7E STA $7EC500[$7E:C500] A:2669 X:2669 Y:00FF P:envmxdizC

That's all you need to know NS.

There are other transparent colors through such as the death mountain light world, areas 80-81 and the dark world itself but you'll have to find those yourself... or as a good tip >>>ASK THE MAN, BECAUSE HE KNOWS<<< (i hope you remember who is the man )

Yeah definately shouldnt be burried because i need help...Ive got majorly into the whole GFX and palette editing and i want to edit the transparent colour in the overworld but i cant find info on it anywhere and its something that ive never done before.

I recall someone once saying its not in the HM palettes but needs to be changed in hex and seeing as the people that will know keep a close eye on this thread i thought itd be the best place to ask without creating a new thread.

Ah i kinda see. Your first step in changing the palettes...changing the palettes is pretty cool. You can turn the desert into a snow location or death mountain into a lava pit by simply changing the Pal.

A good thing to do is hold of showing a lot of screenshots until youve made a significant difference to zelda. Youll find that you will change your work a lot and the second or third attempts at altering the rom are considerably better than your first. Im not saying your works shit but if i look back at what i did 3 years ago it was pretty pants!

As with everything zelda ill keep an eye on your work.
