Animated GIFs in RM2k, wow, I never heard about that ?
Usually you can use only BMP and PNG for image ressources.
There is an option to import XYZ-data (original, for RM2k unknown formats), but if the additional information added in animated GIFs is conserved in RM2k after import, is another question .. or if it even works that way.

The easiest way might be to use panoramas in the background and/or chipsets. With transparent chips and good Battle Animations there can be achieved a lot.
Hence a looping BA (like a fire cast from the RTP, set up in a Common Event) while you move characters in a destroyed town - it is burning and you experience that in a good way

You best option would be to use feither flash and convert it to an animated gif, or to you ImageReady and do the same.

Lots of flash....

Or you could do it the hard way and make a LOT of character movement commands... like I used to do...
