Something else to watch out for when using ExGFX on the overworld: sometimes, depending on which tiles you've changed, event tiles will revert to their old look while fading in. I think there's another tileset loaded in memory that FuSoYa's code doesn't overwrite...

Yea, it definitely looks a lot better with ExGfx. Just keep in mind that when Mario passes through a "Standard Exit", the graphics don't get reloaded until he goes into a level, and back out. Use Pipes and Stars to reload the graphics when changing from one OV area to another. And also be aware that while in 2 Player mode, the Graphics don't reload when you switch between players.

It should be easy to understand, but here's a clear example anyway. If Mario was in the Main OV Screen, and Luigi was in Vanilla Dome, the graphics wouldn't reload (after Luigi's turn) when it becomes Mario's turn again, or vise-versa (From Mario's to Luigi's turn). Instead, it would still be using Vanilla Dome's graphics (from when it was previously Luigi's turn) for the Main OV area
(which would now be Mario's Turn), or vise-versa.

Make your own. It really is quite easy, especially when you're using the old tiles as a base. Easier than regular ExGFX making, if you ask me. Even if it isn't a complete overhaul, you can still pull off some pretty awesome stuff when you make small changes. Trust me on this, I have experience.

If you're going to use SMW graphics, change the palette at least so the player will be more interested.

I will do that for my next hack.
Now I am just using plain SMW stuff for my first hack.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
Today I made my first path and some other testing. Now I just need to make a nice overworld.

Er hem, excuse me, but I think Atma has a more interactive way of teaching even than the LM Help File, if you ask me. He goes into very small details so anyone can learn skills from those. From the old board, I even saved that giant Palette Animation document, and I intend to post it whenever anyone needs it. It's a shame that all those long and informative posts BMF and Atma made have now gone to waste. Many people get the advanced skills by other people instead of by documents that you can't ask questions in.

Why be so rough on Cpubasic (or SMWExpert)? They were probably thinking of a way to explain it and typing it when you almost finished typing it.

EVERYTHING, you say? Wow, that's impressive! I think you showed all you know in your demo- except for events. You have them now in your hack, yes?

Torn, I hope you know how to do overworlds now! I look forward to seeing your first attempt at one with events.

Oh really. You want to test that?!!
I only got very good responses to the "Custom Animation and Custom Palette" tutorials that I wrote, and yes they were very clear and easy to understand.

I wasn't trying to attack you earlier, but you really deserved what I said. You said the same kind of things about my hack, that was said about your's (and mine wasn't even anything like your's, your's sucked ass completely, and I didn't even comment on it, untill now), and then bitched about it and tried to cover up by saying that you did it on purpose. What kind of idiot would produce crap on purpose and get offended when people don't like it. If your going to give criticism (criticism that wasn't even useful or helpful in any way, just offensive), then you better be able to take some.

If you have any more questions about the Overworld, ask away, I know how to work everything in the OV Editor.

I don't feel like writing a full tutorial right now (because I'm tired and want to get to bed right now, and I'm not feeling that well either), but I'll do it in a couple days.

I just figured out how to edit the overworld in design. It is simple. First, go to the Layer 2 Event Editor, then press Home/End to scan through the events (PgUp/PgDn go through events by number, while Home/End goes through the paths one by one). Then go to the Event Editor and press down until you find some paths. Then place them down in order and... PRESTO! You got an event done.

I have one thing he forgot to say. Any tiles highlighted, but not showing up, are what will be created on that event. And oh, to edit the event tiles, just change the event tile area in the 8x8 editor mode.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm giving uneccesary advice, but I just want you to understnad everything.

Click on the house icon with a sparkle on it and press page up or page down to move between events, go to the event you want, and place movement tiles on the event to have them come up. Similiarly, for placing map tiles, go to the mountain tile with a sparkle on it, press page up/page down to get to the event you want, open the tile thing next to (edit: to the right of) the blue switch icon, press down and up to get to the page you want, and paste those in in the order you want. if you want to put something between things you've already placed press home/end to get to the step you want and place it there.

I have started to play around with overworld editor, cause I find it boring to use Nintendo's old overworld. But I do have a problem (and yes I have been searching in the help file for it and I have read the whole section about overworld editing) and it is the events. I can't figure how those is made, like the bridge that pops up when you vanilla fortess (etc...). So do anyone have any info or help for me?

Sorry for asking newbie questions.
