I gotta say... Roy. He's just so cool. It's everything I like about Marth, only with FIRE! His B attack allone is awesome! Samus is a close second, then comes Mr. Game n Watch... dunno why, though.

Pichu isn't the bottom of the bottom. Pichu >>>>>>>>>>> Bowser. Also yes, the goggles kick ass.

Grey: L-cancelling is hitting the L-button right before landing after a midair A-button attack, in order to recover far more quickly. It's most noticeable from the Links' A+down stab.

I like to think that I can play most characters at least halfway decently, but I'd have to say my favorites are Dr. Mario, Roy, and the bottom of the bottom, Pichu. People learn to FEAR the little yellow thing. And goggles instantly make it the best character in the game.

Mr. Game & Watch is pretty fun to use, too. Something funny about killing characters who have 1 more dimension and 50x more animation with the little guy.

Sheik's speedy yeah, but unfortunately she lacks the power to give a decent knockout blow. More often than not I've had to switch to the slower, stronger Zelda to finish off my foes. Personally my two main characters now are Marth and Kirby, Marth's speed is more than a match for Sheik, and he has a lot of power too, plus he doesn't fly very far. Kirby's special moveset outdoes Sheik's as well, though his physical attacks aren't as streamlined. It's a balance, really. Plus, I was never very good with Sheik anyway...

That, while generally accepted as fact, is very debateable... I, however, lack the knowledge to prove you wrong conclusively.

I voted for falco. Just because he's slower than fox doesn't mean he's not a good character. He has higher power and you could really screw someone up when they're trying to get back on the level by shooting them and knocking them back.

I've raised hell quite often with Luigi.

Alright, I just recently started using Kirby myself. I've found that his Dash-forward regular attack (that fireball) is an excellent sucker punch. It's almost unavoidable, causes fire damage, and it even has good damage to it. There's not much kick to it, but that's ok because that means you can pull them off rapid-fire on an opponent to rack him up high, then finish him with something like the rock attack or a forward smash.

I also like the Hammer attack, it's a good aerial disrupt, has fast recovery time (in the air), and the off-beatness of its ground attack makes it a good move to catch your opponent off guard with (he sees the hammer rear back, figures it's a free attack, gets smacked at the last possible second).

Also, does anyone here know what L-Cancelling is? I heard about it, but I don't know how to do it. And Dracoon, trust me, considering what I just said, I don't think you need to worry about playing the game too much.

It is Fox Captain Falcon and Roy. They are the best no matter what you say. I own with fox and everyone stand the ultimate juggler! I play this game a litttle to much.

I think Bowsers the bigest, strongest and best guy in the game. Plus he's my fav and my name here .

I'm da bomb with Kirby! Fav. color: Blue!
But I overuse his rock attack. I've been trying not to overuse it, but...I just use it too much...

I vote Ness. He has very unique attacks, and it takes skills and practice to master his usage. That's why when you get really good with him (like I have) it's very rewarding. I am a 1 vs 1 master in SSMB, but I am not so good with 4 people. I lost badly in a 4 person brawl with my friends, and I was rather embarrassed. It was satifying and redeeming to whoop them all in a 1 on 1 duel, one after another using Ness.

This one goes to Ness. PK Thunder is such a cheap attack.

Must be cool to know Valcion in person.

I think the problem with your friends' wavedashing is it isn't use effectively. When it is, is has no downsides, can increase defense a bit on account of shrugging off some hits and the crouch cancelling thing plus the dodge thing, and it increases defense. They probably just haven't put enough practice in to it. Despite that, if your character has low traction (Mewtwo, Luigi, Ice Climbers, etc.), you don't really have anything to lose from picking it up. Just because things aren't used effectively against you doesn't mean they can't be used effectively at all, you know.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live?

Yep yep, tournaments pop up every once in awhile just because of how popular the game is. Whenever my friends and I have a LAN party, about a third of us just go out of the computer room for a few hours and play Melee. We're all really good players, so it's always fun, especially with the crazy rules that everyone comes up with.

There are a SSBM tournament were you live?

I wish there were such tournaments here. I was awesome at SSBM, now I hadn't played it for long time. But with some training I should be able to be as good as I where before...

...But when it's used against me I just smack it and watch my opponent fly away, then meteor smash him to hell in a handbasket. I'm sure if I stopped winning because they were used against me I'd learn them, but when they're used against me they're not all that effective.

In other news, there's an SSBM tournament going on at my local mall. I've decided to enter with Valcion as my partner. But the thing is, I don't know how to counter any of the moves used by characters he doesn't use (since all of my training is against him). Anyone got any suggestions on what I should expect from people who have less of a life than me when it comes to this game?
