It might be easier than you think to compile M3I for Windows. It uses the Allegro library for graphics, so it may just be a case of a few source changes, and a recompile. Then again, it may not. But as touched in the other thread in ROM Hacking, it would be better to write a new SMB3 editor from scratch than try to port M3I.

Converting from DOS to Windows is NOT an easy task; I speak from experience about that. I'd say it'd likely be easier to more or less rewrite the whole thing, than to try and convert it.
The Windows programming model is just far too different from the DOS model for conversion to be easy.

Ailure: it's C

i dont mean to discourage you, but have you looked at the source? it's a fairly nice sized program..do you know C/C++? it'd be just plain nasty converting all that to some sort of BASIC based language.. you sure you're up to this task?

First, what is the programmming langauge?

Second... there is no magic way to compile a DOS program to Windows program. Even with the source code. (at least this is true for the most programming languages)

You'd have to totally convert the code from whatever it was coded in to a Windows app code...

I'd give it a shot if I had a source...

They're 2 completely different OSes. You'd have to port it (get your hands on the source and replace DOS i/o routines with Windows routines). Or do a complete rewrite.

There can't be a conversion app. Closest you'll get is a DOS emulator.

If anyone knows, I could use the info to make Mario Improvement 3 for Windows.
