About that first post: OK, so there might not always be a need to pre-order, but what's the harm? It's fully refundable, and it makes sure you get a copy in case not enough games get shipped, there's more demand than expected, etc. Plus, as previously stated, cool shit rocks. And sometimes you can get the games the night before or earlier. So all in all, there's absolutely no reason not to pre-order if you know you're going to buy the game anyway.

You're nuts. You're all nuts. At shops in my area things sell out fairly quickly. If I hadn't reserved Viewtiful Joe for instance I may well never have gotten it.

i think im going to reserve the game "Metal Slug" advance, but im thinking of just buying a neo geo pocket color online for thirty bucks, and buying metal slug first mission for ten bucks...

I usually go to game crazy, but dont reserve. they want me to, and i just bother them, like say"whats so special about it" then they tell me, and i go " I dont know, its five bucks, and i dont know if ill have that money by then, and it is 5 bucks"
then i buy my game and leave.

For whatever reason, I don't goto anything but Walmart, and if that doesn't work, then I just go to the mall.

Never had a problem with that combo.

You guys have weird stores.

My EB is no different though. Last time I went there were two GIRLS working there.

They seemed pretty knowledgeable too.

I've only pre-ordered once. That was Zelda: Wind Waker, 'cause I wanted the bonus disc.

Of course, we don't even have a Gamestop or anything here. Just Walmart and Hastings (Hastings = Blockbuster + Barnes & Nobles + misc. crap), neither or which usually have a great selection (Hastings has better selection, but I get the nice 10% employee discount at Walmart, so I check there first ). The only time you CAN pre-order at Walmart is when there's a special offer. Hastings will probably reserve a copy, but AFAIK they don't do the special offers.

ACtually the only way I preorder is on the internet. I never go to an store and preorder there...

And Internet shops seems to release the game earlier.

You know somethings up in the world of gaming when the giveaways are becomming cooler than the actual games themselves. =D

In Gamestop the money used for preordering works as store credit, so you can transfer it to another preorder. Cheap way to get free bonuses.

....

You know....

I hadn't even thought of doing that before.

muahahaha >=D

Dear God, I think I'm going to get that pewter Doom 3 statue

Ah... I haven't preordered in a long time. Although, I'll probably have to for Halo II. Preordering, in my opinion, isn't necessary, unless the game/whatever is very popular and will get sold out in 5 seconds after it is released,

Actually, I kind of know the manager. (I think it may be him) Some older guy, 40's maybe who collects FF games.

I would sometimes just talk a bit about FF games with him, but then again when there's younger people working there more around my age, all they talk about is drugs.

And my Gamestop's work like you described Toxic, I've had Halo 2 reserved for months with a 5 dollar payment, when I go in I should only have to pay 45$.

Complain to the manager and they'll get their asses chewed out.

Depends on the game. That's how most games work, but if you get a bonus... then you have to pre-order.

They're doing that with lots of PC games now - giving away bonus game files/demos/etc. with a reservation.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
