Jarukoth nods to Hikari.

Jarukoth: "You guessed right! Of course I'll go! I just so happen to be rather good at climbing things..."

Farid: Dragon Roost Cavern? Why of course! I don't know about me group here, but I'd love to go. Er, help out.

Hikari: ... It's not like I've got anything else better to do. And I can take a wild guess everyone else agrees.

Prince Glenn: Sorry, but I really don't feel like going to see Valoo right now. I mean, how am I supposed to get a scale from him when he's so upset? And you think you can calm Valoo down!? Psssssh! What a load!

Fem: Please, Prince...

Prince Glenn: I'm done talking with you. Now, please leave.

The group shuffled out of Glenn's room, and Fem shut the door.

Fem: I'm really sorry about all this... You see, his grandmother... Valoo's former attendant.. She passed away just recently. She was a strong and courageous woman, and I was honored to have her as my teacher. If only I was more like her...

JDavis: I.. *reaches as if to rest a supportive hand on Fem's shoulder, but stops short, unsure of how she take it*

Fem: I'm sorry to have to ask you all this, but I need your help! Could you please come with me to Dragon Roost Cavern? I may only know some of the Great Valoo's language, but it should be enough for me to find out what's wrong with him, but I'll need to climb to the top of Dragon Roost to do so.

Hikari: Hey, listen here, you little jerk. I'm trying to save my sister, and I wound up getting stuck on a sidequest to help you out. Be glad that you're being helped.

Farid: Whoa whoa! Yer a lot less friendly than I thought ye were.

Hikari looked off to the side. She paused for a moment before speaking again.

Hikari: I'm just... really irritated by what's been going on... And you're not helping, pirate boy.

She gives a little sigh and looks at Glenn.

Hikari: Look, there's a bunch of us here. Whatever bad thing that happened probably won't happen again since we're all here. And if worse comes to worse, we'll just give the dragon a smacking just to set him right. *nod nod*

The group had gone down a small flight of stairs and had reached the door at the end of a short hall when Fem stopped and faced everyone.

Fem: Please don't get offended by Glenn's manner... He's been through a lot lately.

With that, she opened the door. Our heroes found themselves in a relatively average-sized room. There was a large rug on the floor, a couple of shelves with clothes and toys on them, and in one corner there was a bed. Lying on the bed was a boy about a year younger than Fem. He had blondish-brown hair that hung loosely around his head, and, like his father, had a large gold amulet of some sort hanging around his neck. He also had a fake beak, and wings that were similar to Jack's... but nowhere near as big. In fact, his wings looked more of a size you'd expect to find on a seagull or cucco. He didn't seem to notice everyone entering his room, as he was staring intently at what looked like a huge orange pearl.

Fem: *ahem* Prince Glenn.

Prince Glenn: Huh? *sits up* What's all this?

Fem: These are the children from Outset who we've all heard about.

Prince Glenn: Good for them.

Fem: *sigh* Your father thought that you might want to meet them and-

Prince Glenn: Well he thought wrong.

Fem: *through her teeth* He also wanted me to give you this letter. *hands the letter to Glenn*

Prince Glenn: A letter? *opens it up and reads* Oh, sure, telling me to be brave is easy enough for him. It's not like he's the one that went through... that. It's not like he still has to get a scale from Valoo. *looks at out heroes* You're in this letter, too, you know. Poking your noses in other people's business, eh?

Jarukoth is not even listening to any of JDavis' exploits. He is too busy admiring the Ritos surrounding him. He had never seen anything quite like them before, and ca't help but stare a bit at the unusual creatures...

It isn't until he looks back up that he sees his other traveling companions a good distance ahead of him...

Jarukoth: "Oh crap! Not again!"

He rushes back along side his comrades, eager to not miss anything else interesting in this new place...

Farid: Man.. Ye got a fancy place for livin', there. A surefire job, and an island to yerselves....

Hikari finally noticed the oddities between Jack, Chief Draco, and Fem and the rest of the Ritos. The little, round girl was feeling a bit apprehensive but..

Hikari: Hey.. Um.. Fem? Why do you guys have... Er.. I mean... About the...

Farid: Hey hey hey! Could we take Glenn ta the dragon? 'Tis a way ta be hangin' out, savy?

Hikari: *dull look* I don't know why, but seeing you this motivated over helping someone seems out of character for you.

Farid: Ah, y'dunno me very well! I do these kind of things all the time!

Hikari: Sure. Sure. *looks over at JDavis and grins* What's with acting so cool, Mr. Smooth?

They entered the opening to find themselves in an enormous, cavernous room. There was a path spiraling upwards around the wall, and plenty of doors. There were also plenty crates of mail, and a large number of Rito. In the middle of the room, there was a large pattern on the ground, and the Chief stood in the middle of it, speaking with another Rito. The Chief, like Jack, had a fake beak and wings that protruded from his back (though his were more bat-like than bird-like), whereas all the other Rito had real beaks and their wings came out of their arms when they needed them.

Chief Draco: Well? Have you found the cause of Valoo's distress?

Messenger: I'm afraid not, sir...

Chief Draco: Well don't waste my time with nothing!

Messenger: Yes, sir. *flies off*

Chief Draco: *spots everyone entering the room* Ah, so these must be the kids from Outset.

Jack: Yep, they just arrived.

Chief Draco: I know all about your perils, of course. A troubling tale, indeed...

Jack: *ahem*

Chief Draco: Oh, right, and if there's anything we can do to help you, just let us know. However, right now, we've got our own problems to deal with.

Jack: I've already informed them.

Chief Draco: Ah, well, that's good. Saves me the trouble. Say, how would you kids like to hang out with a Prince? That'd be pretty cool, eh? Pretty hip? Pretty 'all that and a bag of nachos'?

Jack: I've already informed them of that part of the problem as well They've agreed to hang out with Prince Glenn. Or at least, I think they have. They didn't really so "no" or anything, at least.

Chief Draco: It's settled, then.

Jack: I'll have Fem show them to Glenn's chamber.

Chief Draco: Yes, good idea.

Jack: Fem!

A girl about our heroes' age flew down from one of the upper levels of the cavern. Like Jack and the Chief, she had wings protruding from her back and a fake beak. Her wings, however, were covered in purple feathers.

Fem: Yes?

Jack: This is my daughter, Fem. She's studying to be the great Valoo's attendant. Fem, these are the kids from Outset.

Fem: Pleased to meet you!

JDavis was suddenly standing right next to Fem, leaning against a conveniently placed crate.

JDavis: The pleasure is all mine. Tell me, what is a lovely girl such as yourself doing in a post office like this?

Fem: Er.. *sweatdrop*

Jack: ... Fem, please show our guests to Prince Glenn's chamber, the Chief wishes for them to... "hang out"

Chief Draco: Oh, and while you're at it, give Glenn this note. *hands Fem an envelope*

Fem: Sure thing.

And with that, Jack and Chief Draco went off to go about their business.

Fem: So... Just follow me, then.

Hikari: Of course we're ready. It's not like we've got anything else better to do.

Farid: There's sleeping.

Hikari: Lazy bum.

Farid: And constantly complaining about everything

Hikari: I'm trying to save my sister here.

Farid: But ye don't have to be so stuck up about it.

Hikari: *snorts* Where's that chief at?

Jack: F- Feathers!? ... Wait a sec... You're not from Outset. *turns to JDavis* Who is this brat?

JDavis: Was stowing away on the pirate ship. Pirates dumped him off at the Forbidden Fortress with the rest of us. Been clinging to us like a parasite since then.

Jack: Ah. *looks back at Farid* Well you best mind your manners here, snot-face. The Chief's not likely to take kindly to your nonsense. *looks at the group as a whole again* Well, just follow me and I'll explain-

Jack turns around to face a large boulder.

Jack: -shit.

JDavis: I think we all understand shit.

Jack: Heh. Anyway, we'll have to take care of this boulder 'fore we go anywhere. *grabs a bomb flower and tosses it at the boulder* Fire in the hole!

The bomb flower explodes, destroying the boulder. A railed path leading into an opening in the side of the mountain is revealed. There are a few jars here and there along the railing, as well as another postman.

Jack: Much better. Now, where was I?

JDavis: Explaining shit.

Jack: Ah, right. I'm sure you've all noticed the dragon atop the mountain? Well, volcano, but, whatever. That's Valoo. He's been having some tantrums recently, who knows why, and it's kind of messing with our way of life here. Besides the obvious noise pollution problem, there's the bit about the scales...

JDavis: Scales?

Jack: You see, us Rito aren't all born with wings. And those that are typically have underdeveloped ones. By obtaining a scale from Valoo, we are able to either grow wings or allow the wings we already have to grow to a usable size. This is usually done when a kid comes of age.. About you'se guys' age. As it just so happens, the Chief's son, Glenn, is of that age. Glenn's sort of a timid kid to begin with, not like his father at all in that regard , and this business with Valoo and not being able to get his wings has only worsened things. All of us Rito already know about you all and your problems, you kind of hear all sorts of gossip and such in our occupation, and the Chief was saying that he'd like for you to hang out with his son, in hopes that your courage and what-not might rub off on the boy. Personally, I think it's going to take a lot more than that- Hey, Bob.

The other postman: Hey, Jack.

Jack: A lot more than that to get the kid to toughen up, but what do I know?

JDavis: Shit.

Jack: Yeah, which at least puts me ahead of all the folks out there that don't know shit. Anyway, to be completely honest, you may have to end up finding out what's wrong with Valoo yourselves and taking care of it. Compared to taking on that overgrown bluebird, it shouldn't be any trouble.

Everyone stopped walking, as they had reached the entrance.

Jack: Well, here we are. You all ready to meet the Chief and such?

Hikari: ... How is increasing our powers and abilities going to do anything? We just need to make use of this stupid stick.

Farid: Cucco.

Hikari: ....

Farid: We'd have ta become stronger than a cucco.

Hikari: ....

Hikari kept quiet. Some sense was finally beaten into her.

Farid: And what's this thing you speak of, Feathers?

JDavis: Speak of the devil...

Just then, a winged mail-man with the fake beak, Jack, just happened to be flying overhead. As he spotted our rag-tag group of heroes, he quickly swooped down for a perfect landing.

Jack: 'Hoy! I thought you kids might be headed this way. I've already heard all about your less-than-successful trip to the Forbidden Fortress... Well, that sort of thing happens. What you need now is some seemingly unrelated side-quests to boost your powers and abilities before making another attempt. Hmm... In fact... I might know just the thing...

Hikari was still waving the baton around. Farid looked out the corner of his eye at Hikari, with a slight irritation on his face.

Farid: Fancy meeting ye here.... Amazing how yer still alive.

Hikari: Awwwwooo... Why isn't this working?

Farid: Better question is why yer noise isn't waking him up.

Hikari and Farid look at Jargon's head, who was soundly sleeping. Hikari then looks at the top of the nearby mountain. There was a red creature, with a long neck and a plump body, that was roaring out in pain.

Hikari: Maybe it's music to an old man and painful to an animal.

Hikari steps off of Farid and hops off the boat. She then waddles up the sandy shore.

Hikari: You're out of the loop, Jay. *looks at Jarukoth* If you can remember, that annoying old man, Jargon, was thrown off when we were all on Tetra's ship. He somehow got reincarnted as this annoying boat. *blinks* This island's east of Forsaken Fortress.. but we were all thrown east to begin with.. I was convinced by these idiots to come to this island to find something that'll change the wind to head west, but all we did was find a stupid flower that explodes, and this stick that makes the air sing.

Farid: That's very kind of ye ta say.

Farid glared at Hikari, while she glared back at him. Farid broke his glare by diverting his attention to the creature at the top of the mountain.

Farid: Maybe... it's a dragon... Oooh! And dragons have lotsa shiney shinies!

Hikari: Dragon Roost Island.. Come to think of it.. Isn't that where the mailman Jack lives? Maybe he can help us out... Hm...

*bump* *bump*

Jarukoth: "Uuggghhh...where the heUUGGHH!"

A couple bumps of his head against the ships hull awaken Jarukoth...whose head was right in the water...in the middle of the ocean.

Acting partly on his instinct to get to higher ground, Jarukoth climbs the outside of the ship, and eventually to the deck, where he collapses and catches his breath...

Jarukoth: *huff* *huff* "I'm glad you people came along when you did, I..."

He looks up, and notices the people as his old traveling companions!

Jarukoth: "Wow. Now THAT'S a happy coincidence! Where are we, anyway?"

Hikari: .... Argh! Even the old man reincarnated is useless. Damnit!

Hikari slowly fell to the sandy floor.

Hikari: Marin... I'm sorry...

Her voice was slightly breaking. The sound of the waves was the only thing breaking the silence, until..

Farid: 'Ey. I found somethin'.

Farid, who was still in the boat, held up a strange stick. As he waved the stick around, a chorus began to whisper through the wind. Hikari looked up. There was a slight bit of wateryness in the corner of her eyes.

Farid: Whoa... Yer really serious, aren't ye? I guess this thin' here is the thing...

Hikari lunges at Farid, literally soaring over the shore. The long haired boy was knocked down--

Farid: Ow!

-- as Hikari snatched the unusual object from Farid. She begins breathing hard as she waves the stick around, causing the wind to sing horribly.

Farid: Stop! Stop! Ye're making that beast up there roar in pain.

Lighting up with a jerk, as if something familiar had been roused into his memory. He looked around quickly, and noticed that a considerable amount of time had passed since he was last so aware. The lingering feeling of drowsiness quickly set sail in his mind, and he came to.

Jargon: "Eh?! What's this... You kids want something about winds? You whippersnappers and your horrible 'gimmie gimmie' attitude! I think I do have something in my hull that could be what you want. But what do I know! I'm just an old man! You know, in my day, we used to work for our things! And we had nice things! Iodine soap, mulberry onions..."

And the head bowed low and Jargon drifted off to sleepy land once again.

Hikari: ... EEK!

Hikari immediately tossed the bomb flower into the nearby body of water. She then lunged forward and covered her heard. Water shot out, and rained on the purple girl. A few moments later, Hikari looked behind her. She got up and tried to wipe the sand and water off of her.

She then walks over to Sion.

Hikari: YOU ALMOST KILLED ME! I can't believe you led us to a stupid natural bomb! What about the thing that's supposed to control the winds?!?! ARGH!

Sion lit the fuse of the bomb plant while still in Hikaris hand and leaped behind a nearby bush.

Hikari: ... What?

Hikari focused her eyes on the unusual plant. She waded through the shore after leaping off of the boat, and walked towards the flora.

Hikari: ... This doesn't look like an item that can change the wind..

Hikari poked the large flower. It didn't move. She leaned over and picked up the black bulb.

Hikari: Do I have to wave it around, or something?
