I'm pissed at myself because I was looking forward to it for months and it completly slipped my mind the few days it was open. I had the client all set up for it too.

But a bunch of people here played it so you can get their opinions from it. I think the thread is somewhere below actually.

But yeah, no monthly fees is always a good plus. And I like how you can have a party in an area just for your group. That way, there's no kill stealing and all that other grief.

Discuss your Night Elfin heritage and become a beta tester? (One of three open slots)

I've also been looking at Guild Wars. It seems to blend a lot of things I like in an online game: Cooperation, parties, good graphics, and no monthly fees! (just to name a few)

Sadly, no. I don't think anyone of us made it into beta. I'm just going to have to wait until it comes out.

Penny Arcade is giving away beta accounts to night elves. Real ones or something. I'm not sure I understood exactly what they were trying to do but you might want to check that out.

I've recently been informed about the various aspects of being in a party. And it seems that it would take a long time before I could be in a party with my friend. He's a level 38 BLM. And it would take me too much time to gain that many levels or anywhere near there. So right now I am choosing between WoW and CoH. I don't know too much about the battling in WoW though. I've also heard that in CoH, after gaining a level, you don't notice much of a difference. WoW's environment looks a lot more fantastical and thus more enticing, and I could also play it like 2 hours a day...

Legion, are you, by chance, beta testing WoW?

Heck, go with FFXI then. Come to think of it, you would probably like FFXI better than CoH anyway. Can you say "ninjas"?

Plus, if you just so happen to land on the Bismarck server, I might be encouraged to play more often...

FFXI: Ninja class.

CoH: Ninja class + Customization. Unlimited kinds of ninja looks.

My friend is trying to convince me to play FFXI with him.. I dunno guys.. He says that we can play 2 hours a night, and the game is cheaper than CoH. Also, I wouldn't have to worry about going solo, because I'd be in a party from the start. So, Legion, I can't customize the controls even on the PC? That kinda sucks.. The leveling part doesn't seem SO bad. I mean, I don't care much about leveling either way.

Honestly, I choose neither. FFXI just didn't hold my interest long enough, and City of Heroes looks a bit meh.

I am currently saving up to get The Matrix Online. It doesn't look like it takes up TOO much time to be enjoyable, and the ability system looks similar to SWG.

I think I'll have to cross out Star Wars Galaxies. Right now, I don't think I have enough time to play such a "large" game like that. If I can find a mmorpg that is not totally going to use up my time, then I'm set.

Galaxies, from much of what I've heard, took a lot of flak for a mediocre launch and poor early stages. It may have improved since; the talk of it, good and bad, has died down.

Legion, I never understood how they intended to pull off a game like City of Heroes. Most cities - Metropolis, Gotham - have room for a single hero and little more. A massively multiplayer, 500+ character server sounds ludicrous. How'sit work?

Massive amounts of enemies. The main one being inter-dimensional invaders. There are also neo-NAZIs. Mutants. Cyborgs. Massive corporations. Chinese people, etc.

Plus, City of Villains expansion is coming out soon.

Wait until CoV. Then I can kick your evil ass from CoH.

Yes, I picked CoH. You can find me in the Triumph server as "Cymoro".

Oh yea... I almost forgot about SWG. I have heard that you can actually buy land and create cities and stuff on it. The game sounds very expansive, yet I've also heard of many glitches in the game. So I'm basically wondering if I want a game like that or one that has a lot of character customization. How's the battle system in SWG anyways?

About COH, what's boring about it?

Even with the massive number of heroes per city, it is really no more ridiculous than EverQuest (and comparable MMORPGs) in that respect. That is, just as CoH violates the long-standing comic book rule of a city only sustaining a small number of heroes, EverQuest goes against fantasy 'rules' that allow few adventurers in a given area. The extraordinary man should never outnumber the comman man, though in EQ there are certainly several times more of the former .

All mmorpg's have a rocky start. That's just the way things work. They've come leaps and bounds since then and we're on the verge of getting huge revamps and augments to combat, professions, quests, etc...

And the JTL expansion is coming out soon which is going to allow for real time twitch based space combat. It's going to rock.

Now that you mention it, I did notice that in the game and thought it was kind of stupid. You're running around and you ahve TONS of superheroes leaping this way and that. It's overcrowded with superheroes and does look pretty silly.

City of Heroes came out April 28th. It's nice at first, but then you quickly realize that you're not going anywhere and the game isn't going to get any better. It does have the best damn user look customization I've ever seen in an MMORPG before. I spent over an hour making my character. The game is nice and all, but I wouldn't call it epic. It gets boring very fast.

FFXI just plain sucks. If you like to solo, forget it. This game FORCES you to group if you want to advance in levels. The controls are horrible and NOT customizable. Why they did that I'll never understand. The leveling system sucks too. You level up to a certain level, pick another class, then start all over. Repeat repeat repeat. It's just a big and boring grind fest. Square truly dropped the ball with this one.

I personally wouldn't recommend either one of them.

I don't know if it will interest you or not, but as of now, Star Wars Galaxies is currently the best MMORPG on the market. Hands down. That might change when WoW or EQ 2 comes out (I doubt it) but we'll see. So if you want to wait for that...

That, and Matrix Online is coming out in the not so distant future too. If it turns out how they describe it, it's going to be awesome. But I highly doubt it will.

So in conclusion, if you want to play the best mmorpg out right now, get SWG.

If you don't want to play that, then wait for the next 2-3 mmorpg's.

But if you really must choose between these two, I'd go with CoH. You'll get bored with it soon though. Unless it's your first MMORPG, then you'll probably love it.

City of Heroes will be the better game, by virtue of everything Square sucking.

No, honestly, I'd avoid the choice until Heroes comes out. It hasn't even been released yet, no? And anyway, if there were an "Other" option, I'd stick EQII in there .

Soon, when I get enough money, I shall totally upgrade my computer. Then, after that, I am thinking of getting an online rpg. I have narrowed down my choices to these two. So, can someone tell me which one is better?
