Good point, come to think of it, the prompt should be one 16x16 block per letter. Another BG to consider would be like a bunch of hex, or something along those lines. Also, the title screen MUST look like a window! (I'll make a mock-up later. )

I like the idea, though a proportional font for the C-prompt? eek..
Here, including a blinking cursor ( You need to make it blink, though.. )

Heh, oh well..
I love the idea, don't let it fail!

I like your idea, I hope it turns out well. One idea that pops to mind is having a Yoshi's Island style one-shot intro level with you leaving your character's original ROM.

It reminds me of a webcomic I read

What a concept for a game...

Oh yeah, and why'd you pick the guy from River City Ransom?

Sounds like a very promising idea, please don't drop this project along the way.

The problem, of course, with that is that Sonic's physics are hilariously loose. You can run on the cieling provided you're going fast enough.

Now that's the best idea I've seen for a while...
Must it all be Nintendo consoles? Make a SEGA world. Sonic graphics in many aspects are alike Mario's (as it was Sega System's counterfait to it).

It's definetly an interesting concept. I hope the gameplay is as good as the idea.

It COULD be a Windows GUI, if I could figure out how to work the OW editor at all. I'll learn it all.

That idea is awesome. Is your OW gonna be like a Windows GUI?
BTW, love the DOS prompt BG. One thing though... My hack also features an SML 1-1 recreation, and a few other level rips. Just thought I'd mention that so you don't think I stole them. (They look a bit different anyway. )

Why didn't I think about this idea first? Anyway... I'm looking forward to play it!

I was thinking of having a N64 game as one of the very last levels, but I'm not sure, hence the "???" for the last world.

GBA, probably as bonus levels along the way.

EDIT:

This hack does look interesting, though. Are you planning on facelifting any levels, or keeping them in that nostalagic old-school format?
This I'm tossing up on. I may do some small mods here and there, but otherwise I'm going to try and keep each level somewhat true to the originals.

Well, until I inevitably run out of free ExGFX space anyway.

For using DOS for half my computer life, I'd be ashamed if I didn't notice.

That, and (SARCRILAGE!) there's no flashing cursor yet. Thanks for pointing it out though.

It's "C:\>".

Nice SML 1-1, by the way. Now if only you could change the status bar font to fit the various levels...

"Interweb". Hehe.

I talked about this a bit in Modern Art after showing off my Mini-Kunio sprites, so...

STORY (subject to change)
Once upon a time, there was a ROM folder on a computer.

And it's inhabitants were happy, well-fed and treated well.

Unfortunately, as with most harmonius things, a form of oppressor must emerge. This arrives in the form of the dreaded Interweb Police. These dark troopers serve and protect those on the Internet, and upon finding this ROM stash, take over it, possessing the strongest inhabitants and marching the smartest into camps to be returned to their copyright owners.

But one character manages to escape the forces, and decides to fight back.

WORLDS (subject to much change):
World 1: The Gameboy Folder
World 2: The NES folder
World 3: The SNES folder
Special Zone: The Outskirts
World 4: ????

SCREENSHOTS (of what little work I've done so far):
The first Gameboy ROM. Look familiar?

The Construct. This dark, empty place is in place of Yoshi's House at the moment.

I'll edit this post when I do more screens and change info.

And no, the levels won't ALL be crappy rebuilds of other games' levels. It'll be about an even balance, I guess.

If you have any suggestions, please, fire away!
