Sounds like a random XP bug. The whole taskbar/start menu are quite buggy and like to randomly mess up. (Mine no loner uses small icons for the Quick Launch, and likes to resize itself when I run something in fullscreen. Also the fact that after running a program once it can jump way up on the list of commonly-used programs. )

then i'm not sure what to do. maybe you should just have some time pass if you are sure the personalize menu option is on. if after a week, you see no change, then there something is definately up.

I just spent a few hours on there playing RO, and it's still not working right.

And yeah, the date & time are correct.

I wonder if your date for those things are messed up? Have you checked the date of your computer? After all, windows depends on the time to see whether something is displayed or not...

It was checked. I just unchecked it, closed the properties window, re-opened it, and checked it again. We'll see if that works...

Try doing the following

1) Right click on the taskbar and click properties.
2) Click 'Start Menu' Tab
3) Click 'Customize' Button for 'classic start menu' option
4) In Advanced Start Menu Options box, scroll down to the bottom. The last option should be Use Personalized Menus, that should be checked...

I mean that the Start Menu looks and acts exactly like the one in Win9x. You click Start, go to Programs, and navigate to the program you want from there. In WinXP, it's supposed to pay attention to the things you don't access often, and hide them, but put a double arrow thingy at the bottom of the list, which, when clicked, shows everything.

Do you mean you are back to having a two-column menu?

If so, all I can say is: WTF?

I mean the Classic Mode for the Start Menu. The one that makes it look like it does in Win9x. And it was working for me. Then it stopped.

You mean the Personalised Menu feature, right?

The code for seems really buggy, and unchanged since it was put in Windows 2000. As far as I know, there isn't a way to stop it from showing items that aren't used ever. Sorry... it's Microsoft ...

My wife recently got a new computer, and it came with XP on it, so I'm learning about it.

Anyway, for my logon, I have the Start Menu set to "Classic" mode. Until about a week ago, it was using it's "smart" feature, and hiding things that I didn't use very often. Now it shows everything. I've tried to make it not show the things I don't use much, but no luck. However, it does still do that with my IE bookmarks.

Any ideas?
