actually it does kind of look like he might be about to die in the last panel there. no such luck though. actually the first year or so of strips, where garfield was humongously fat, were actually really good.. though i havent read em in a few years, but i seem to remember that.. then they were sporadically good for a few years after that.. now theyre repetitive, but sometimes he hits on something funny. one problem is that even when the concept is funny or could be funny he fucks up the delivery. for example, it almost always seems dumber (to me anyway) when the punchline is just by itself in the last panel with the other characters looking shocked or sarcastic or whatever.. its nearly always better to try to have at least one bit of dialogue just before the punchline in the last panel. um... this would be more readable in paragraphs.. screw it

It doesn't matter that Garfield isn't getting younger. Do you know a 26 year old cat?

Ziff, there's a different between spam and dumbassery. =\

actually i do know a cat that is about 26, my dads friend got it before his daughter was born, and shes like 25 and the cats still alive, because they keep it in the house

If you didn't see it, here's the comic in question.

I think I have seen that comic once, then later a "garbage man" cloned him or somthing.

But they usually don't die... at least not the main charachter.

Personally, my favorite strip is:

Cell one: Odie is on the table, upside down, tail wagging, with Jon and Garfield beside him.
Jon: "Garfield! Odie's standing on his head!"
Garfield: "Brilliant"
Cell Two:
Jon: "But isn't that amazing?"
Garfield: "Not really"
Cell Three:
Garfield: "I glued his head to the table"

Hahaha! I got really LMAO when I read that. "I glued his head to the table"

I agree...he

I think that won't happen but... XD XD XD XD XD.

I like garfield, at least the old ones. I hadn't read much of the "new ones". So it's possible that he lost his touch...

I think Garfield hasn't aged a day... He's just as funny as he's ever been. I think there's a lot of expectation of cartoonists to deliver classics every day... That isn't always the case, because the thing that makes Garfield what it is for me, is that one gag can be spread out, and be funny for longer

For instance, the holiday that Garfield and Jon went on that was on the cheap... Lots of the strips throughout made constant use of the storyline

Personally, my favorite strip is:

Cell one: Odie is on the table, upside down, tail wagging, with Jon and Garfield beside him.
Jon: "Garfield! Odie's standing on his head!"
Garfield: "Brilliant"
Cell Two:

*Looks at said comic*

How in the HELL did you get the idea he was dying? He just has arthiritis since he is an old cat. Why would he die because of a cracked wrist?

>.> Garfield's birthday is on June 19th. I remember reading the birthday strip (or series in this case) last year. It was a change (since he met his old self), but still didn't please comically.

*puts his two cents into the thought jar*

See, what I'd like to see come back to the dry, old strip is fun. After going over my "Garfield's Twentieth Anniversary Collection," I noticed that there was more to Garfield besides his weight and there was more to the strip besides that stupid counter. Garfield used to go on vacations, have other, alternate identities (i.e. Banana Peal Man), and sometimes, I know I shouldn't say it but, he was somewhat, remotely funny. Now, when it comes to humor, he may have never been able to achieve the greatness of "Pearls before Swine" or "The Boondocks," but he could entertain at times. The thing is . . . Garfield and the strip have lost their dimension. Now, if only Jim Davis (who is 58 years of age, so we have several more years left of that fat cat) would take him off the counter and put him in different situations much like the ones Kasumi thought up (except the Odie becoming pregnant one,) the strip may just regain its edge.

. . .

Yes, I'm done.

His hand is hurting because he whacked his hand on the table.

It doesn't take a supersluth to figure that one out.

The grandmother died in For Better or for Worse in addition to the charachters already mentioned. Its one of my favorite comics because it hardly gets repetitive.

According to the book "In Dog Years I'd Be Dead," Jim Davis mentioned something about not retiring because he's having too much fun. (That book was a sort of compilation thing that was made last year in honor of Garfield's 25th anniversary, btw.) Although, quite frankly, either he's joking or he does so little as far as the actual comic strip is concerned that he's pretty much retired already. I mean, hell, if I was paid boatloads of money to essentially sign my name on stuff, I wouldn't want to retire either.

Anyway...the comic WAS funny at one point, but that was years ago. Nowadays it just seems like random stuff thrown together.

As for the comic that was the original point of this post (I think) - I'm pretty sure that was a reference to the fact that Garfield's "birthday" is coming up soon. Or it may have passed by now, I forget exactly what day it is. But it's in early June, at any rate.

And for one last bit of random trivia - I've heard cats can live as long as 30 years, but I've never personally seen one that old.

Garfield: "No more of the getting older stuff! *bangs hand on table*
*garfield has lines under eyes*
*holds left wrist* Garfield (looking odd): "Ow..."
...Is Garfield going to die!? ONO! Is this realy the end of the Garfield series? Say it isn't so...

But by definition, look at the FAQ

- What is considered "spam" at the board?

Spam is making:

- A post that is off-topic, meaning that it has nothing to do with the original thread.
- A post that is only a few words long and doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the discussion.
- A thread that doesn't have any real meaning.
- A thread with a poll that is pointless.
- A thread that is an exact duplicate of a pre-existing, recent thread.

If you feel that a thread is spammy, then PM or IM an admin and ask them to take a look at it. Don't ask for someone to take a look at it in the thread itself or lecture the poster on the dangers of spamming.

Intriguingly, this thread had next to no real meaning, and was poorly typed.

Back on topic, Garfield was never funny. When a child, I found it awesome, but I went back and looked at my paper cuttings. Not funny.

Garfield used to be funny. Now it's just freaking stupid. It's like The Simpsons: The old ones were gold, but the new ones suck in comparison. Garfield always talks about how he's getting old. Nothing new.

Clockworkz, if I were a moderator, I would've closed this as spam the MINUTE I saw it.

Ok, YD, sheesh! take a chill pill! minor miscalculation on my part. You gotta know how to take someones mistakes. You're pulling a witeasprinwow on us, here. OK, so Garfild isn't going to end. I wonder when it will... Davis isn't getting any younger... and neither is Garfield...
