I haven't actually seen a dub lately. From what I've seen subbed, they're good. Sure, you can't window hop as much, but you get the feeling in their voices, and you pick up some Japanese as you go along.

I prefer subs over dubs myself.. The main reason is that
I understand better what those characters are saying.
Rarely, at least for me, some dubs are better than subs.

I like both, I've mostly watched subs though. But not all dubs are bad, I liked FLCL's for instance. ;D

Dubbed or subbed? Most of the dubs are bad, but there are good dubs too. It doesn't matter to me when I understand it. But I prefer sub.

I'm a fan of subs myself, especially good fansubs with cultural notes etc.
The Japanese voice actors are almost always better, and far less cheesy.

Well I finally voted, Subs.

After only a couple of months of watching basically subs alone, I'm a fan now. Then in going back to watch dubs, I can easily define a great lack of quality in the voice overs and acting; which sometimes degrades the anime down, Crest of the Stars for instance, great anime, but when the characters talk like robots it's not too great.

Subs just seem to provide a better level of emotion, and keep true to the characters.

So yeah, nowadays, I'd rather watch subs. But I wouldn't cry if I was forced to watch some dubs (I have a few friends who won't give up on it), but I will admit there are some good ones out there, Bebop, Rahxehpon, The Twelve Kingdoms, etc.

Subs man! Sonic X Subs are SOOO much better than Sonic X Dub I want to kill the dubbers! I dident even watch past the 3rd dubbed episode they took out so much stuff! I was hoping I would get to hear sonic say "Shit! Lets go!".

I like subs muuuch better. There's just a certain quality of acting that the Japanese seiyuu obtain and American voice actors just can't compare with.

I will watch certain dubs though, like DBZ, Trigun, and Inu Yasha. But for others, like Yami No Matsuei and Weiss Kreuz . . . no. Just no. If they have my favorite seiyuu in them I won't even consider watching dubs. I've bought some anime only because a seiyuu I liked (or am obsessed with) was in it.

Honestly, as far as I've seen, I like either kind. But, yes, subs are much better and more authentic feeling 99% of the time. I don't MIND watching dubs at all (except for some of the Fox Box etc. ones) but in general I like subs better.

For instance, though, Sonic X was utterly ruined by Fox Box. I, a huge Sonic and anime-in-general fan, plan to get or at least watch the sub someday, but the dub is so thoroughly ruined, right down to all the music needlessly degraded, that I never plan to watch it again.

Subs are way better in my opinion. I mean, sure, it gets annoying sometimes to have to read your anime, but after seeing what happened to One Piece..It's just horrible.Like a month before it was dubbed, I bought the japanese episodes 1-30. I thought the show was great! But after seeing the first dubbed episode, I stopped watching the dub version. I just can't stand it. How come japanese kids get to watch kickass anime on tv, and we dont/?!!?!?!IT AINT FAIR!!!! I AM MAD AT THEM FOR THAT!!!I ENVY THEM DAMNIT!!!!!JUST BECAUSE THEY INVENTED ANIME, should we suffer for that? How many years has it been? I mean c'mon...They've made us american kids suffer long enough...why can't our minds be warped by violent cartoons like the japanese kids? Apparantly it really helps since the japanese people are super smart and all...shit..I am gonna use that excuse for not having good grades..I WILL BLAME THE JAPANESE!!!!!!

*Ok...calm down....it's just anime...*

I keep hearing about this Samurai Champloo. I MUST look into this...

Well lately I've been watching a handful of subbed animes ... Samurai Champloo, Samurai 7, Naruto, and getting ready to watch Fullmetal Achlemist.

After watching a lot of subs and going back to dubs, I've really noticed how bad the voice overs and mouth animations can be sometimes.

But still, here's a statement.

It's best to watch dubbed when you're eating.

Wouldn't it get annoying to have to keep on looking up and then looking down at your food while trying not too miss anything?

Everyting in Finland gets subbed, so I like it more. Usually the orginal voices sound much better (not always, usually) and I have no problem reading the subs and watching the program itself at the same time.

I bought the Love Hina movie set, containing japanese and english dubs. Keitaro is voiced by the guy who did Krillian in DBZ.. it's so lame.

I didn't think the dub for NGE was too bad though.

Subs are awesome, they are definatly the best way to watch all anime, but it's always funny to laugh at a horribly done dubbing job like Sailor Moon! You can't beat it!

I really wish people wouldn't just slag off dubs because they've seen a couple of bad ones. It's this kind of attitude that breeds the elitest anime fans that ruin the scene.

People who complain about subtle differences, such as the controversial End of Evangelion translation, should shut the hell up. Go download some DivXs where the translation describes one thing, and then something completely different happens. We're lucky we have them in English at all, and unless you know Japanese, you're not going to pick up on alot of the extremely subtle hints that can't be emphasised in words.

Hey, as one of those elitist anime/ manga fans, I'm offended! I demand satisfaction. Pistols at dawn!
Seriously though, after about the thirtieth time a fan has had to explain to some noob that the power levels only count towards two sagas in a forty two volume series for the thirtieth time while also trying to explain the RULES OF THE FIGHTING GENRE while they say, "there are rules" or wonderful things like "the only sennins in Naruto are the three" tends to give even the fairest and nicest otakus a case of pissiness compareable to the Comic Book Guy. That's why I have the name that I have even though I'm a staunch passifist. when I get into a flame war with some dipsh** visit pojo.com's boards and watch how fast your head begins smashing itself against the wall in frustration

oh, and um... sub is usually preferable, but some dubs aint so bad...

Dubbed usually, but I don't mind watching subbed once in a while.
Some anime's dub sucks IMO anyway. (Example: DBZ, Inu Yasha)

No, it isn't complete ignorance, you won't see anime the way it was meant to be if you only watch dubs, besides, since you are actually WATCHING it you have lots of time to read the subs. Dubs make at least me look away from the screen sometimes.

I'm gonna go with dubs, the main reasons I like anime is: 1. the story, & 2. the animation.
I really don't care about voices, reading subtitles can be distracting if you ask me.

The point being that the dubs kill the story and that means you can't truly care about the story if you watch an edited, moronized, kiddy version of whatever anime you're watching.

I watch subs, everything is subbed in Sweden, except stuff for kids. There's even some Swedish shows that have subs and to be honest it IS kinda handy even when you understand what they're saying. You get a chance to read the stuff you (for example) didn't hear.
