I have to agree. Ripping from SMAS is cool at first, but they are overused too much. Rip from some non-popular games that nobody would ever think of ripping graphics from. Or better yet, make your own graphics.

Nice shots. Keep up the good work.

No one noticed because the palette was edited and they figured it was just another change and never really noticed it.

the colors of Mario's pants are inverted when he's not firey. I'm surprized nobody else saw this O.o

And as always, keep the level difficulty appropriate...

ok

as skateboarder said, try to rip from other games too, there are plenty of games from various systems that wait to be ripped in a smw hack

DONT MAKE HARD LEVELS!!!!!

honestly, i tried to point that in the 'whats the purpose of hacking' thread, that soem people do excellent works w/ exgfx, but when i go play the hack i see that the hack is too hard, and this kind of stuff.

Anyway, chris, i see that you made PERFECT rips, the palletes are awesome (except for that status bar of course), soc your game seems to be really promising.

Don't waste your talent making too hard levels that people wont be able to play without save-states, for example. This is just an advice
Make like a commercial nintendo game would be, with the difficult growing as you pass the levels, make the earlier levels easy, i am doing this in my hack. But i dont see too many people doing that way, there are hacks that could have been much better if they had a gradual difficult level.

Hmmm. I just noticed. Something that could indicate the game is very difficult. See how in the screenshots, the first shot has five lives, then the second shot which I presume to be of the same level has three? And then the next one has two...

aweseom screens mate, keep up the good work, but, as BMF said, the status bar is not cool, make a recoloring there

I agree with BMF, the status bar needs a major re-coloring. Despite the graphics not being original, they were put together very well and caught my attention. I look forward to playing this one .

Great...screens...
Only one suggestion: in that level of the screen that has mario with a star, put the blue part of the sky before the black. And reduce the number of stars.

Yeah, messing with colors can lead to trouble.

One example I know of from experience was in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where changing the color of the waterfalls in the Emerald Hill Zone ALSO changed them in Aquatic Ruin. That was annoying, as it meant I had to alter the former's level pallette a bit.

Not that I ever got anywhere with it, but nonetheless.

chris, I've got a suggestion... Rip from other games, not just SMAS/YI.

My only real problem with the pics is the funky-colored status bar. I don't like seeing that in hacks, as it makes them seem less professional. I'm certain that could be avoided in nearly every case with a little color remapping.

A lot of retro stuff, eh? I'm really fond of the, um... high sharpness, though? Maybe that's just how the pictures look, though, and it's more dull in game... either way, I think it looks pretty damn nice.

Looks nice. Though you may want to try some homemade GFX.... All rips shows you got a bit lazy .

As always, watch your palettes, and the hack should turn out fine.

I never really play Mario 2 that often, so that would explain it.

BTW: Why's Mario yellow in some areas?

It looks a little different from my Super Mario All-Stars backgrounds...

Anyway, watch the palettes near the status bar, they're kind of hard to see. Otherwise, the level design looks great!

What game does this come from originally (Fu didn't have the Foreground in his hack)

Great! Release one at 2 worlds, another at 5. That's a good start.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
