I think this board's thread page number system needs some changing. Maybe just display about 5 pages, and then end it with an arrow or dots to indicate there are more pages. I think just having a ton of thread page number links looks ugly. For example, look at this: http://board.acmlm.org/forum.php?id=32

I think it should be exactly like it is now on Acmlm-Boards. I hate it when it cuts out the middle pages and only show the first and last three numbers.

I'm fine with:

Thread title « 2 3 4 ... »

I know. And I plan to do that to my board soon. Probably on Monday. But I was giving Yarx feedback.

Elric it could still work like that just put
before the code.

My answer is still the same. The way AcmlmBoard & phpBB do it is fine by me. Though I do prefer the way phpBB puts the links UNDER the thread title, and not beside it.

I prefer to have have links to all of the pages immediately available from the thread index. In other words: the former with none of HyperHacker's suggestions.

I tend to go back to the index after reading each page and then clicking in the next page number link. I also tend to keep scripting turned off.

Well in that case, I'd go with a button. When you click it, it uses Javascript to reveal the clickable page numbers. This way you don't get the clutter and can still jump to any page.

Example:
[before]
This is a long thread! [>]

[after]
This is a long thread! [<]
Pg 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Each page number being clickable, of course.

No no no, Once you are actually LOOKING at a thread you would see the typical navigation similar to what HyperHacker posted. I'm talking when you are looking in a forum, and you get the list of like 25 threads or whatever. If any of the threads span more than a page, than it would use the format I'm asking you about.

I like ti the way it is here and on phpBBs. Having each page individualy numbered is much better. You can go to any page you like, from any page.

Frankly, I prefer the GameFAQs way of doing it, where you have (First Page, Previous Page, Next Page, Last Page) on top, and the individual pages on the bottom. Makes it so I can get anywhere I want to without having to randomly click, or manually editing the URL.

Welcome to my thread!
Page << < 1 2 3 ... 98 99 100 > >>

I like the first one. I think it is better becuase then you dont have to be a clicker and click every number or edit your browser.

the one that has links to each page. if the thread has more than X number of pages, then cut out some of them, such as:

Thread Title - 2 3 4 ... 198 199 200

that, plus a link at the end linking specifically to the last page of the thread, would be spiffitastic.

Which style of Thread listing would you prefer in a forum? (assume this is an entry for a thread that has enough posts to spread acrossed 4 pages)
*Note these are all empty links

Welcome to my thread! (pg. 1, 2, 3, 4)
Welcome to my thread! >>
