I got used to Lunar Magic almost instantly. It's the most user-friendly editor I've ever seen (and probably that exists).

Easy, easy, easy. Probably about half a second for the level editing, then maybe a few months for changing the GFX. As for the actual custom ExGFX editing

Lunar magic is pretty easy. I got it a couple days ago and understand everything but ExGFX and the overworld "events" with a little bit of help from it's help file! There are alot of buttons but it won't be long before you're as good at it as the rest of the people here!

The more buttons, the easier it is, actually. I don't want to have to go to the menu and select something every time I do a certain command.

And yes, some programs are REALLY hard to use compared to LM. *has nightmares about some of them*

lol. me too i have nightmares w/ MImp3, when i tried to hack smb3. I desisted hacknig it after seeing the editor.

And LM rules, it is the best well done editor out there

LM is easy for level design, but editing the overworld can be very frustrating. That's why my hack doesn't have many changes there. I also don't understand fancy things like hex editors or ASM, those are best left to the "expert" hack-makers (a new term for us!).

It'd be wonderful if someone would build a Pokemon GSC editor for me (I'm not hacking this game until then)...

I toyed around with LM once... it's incredibly user-friendly, even if you are clueless on SMW hacking. But since I'm more interested in hacking FF right now, I'm sticking to that.

I read Fpi's Instroduction about 'How to get GFX from other games in your Hack' and sometime it works fine for me.
Look at the screens of SMQ.
That is what I have done with ExGFX.

I think your screenshots looked like you had a solid understanding of ExGFX and tile arranging... They looked like some work from one of our elite GFX hackers/arrangers, like Anikiti's stuff, actually. And that's good.

Lunar Magic has easy level-editing, but before you can really get into the meat-'n-tenders of the program, you'll probably only need a few weeks. Stuff like the exits will be easy to learn, but ExGFX are really hard to do well.

The OW editor is really complex, though. I'm pretty good at editing it, but I still don't know a few of it's features. It's more than likely the hardest part about hacking. Learn that last, so you have levels to go along with your OW.

I've had about a whole years time worth of experience with LM, and I still don't know everything about it. The only thing that really helps your learning of LM is reading the HELP file that came with it. Trust me. Read the help, and you'll be building your own levels soon!

BTW, what's ESE?

LM is cake... and I thank FuSoYa every day I use it for making it so user friendly. It didn't take me long to figure how to use it. took me awhile to figure out what there was to use, though :-P So many features to explore

Lunar Magic took about a day, day and a half maybe, to get editing levels down. All the huge complexities, though... That took much longer ;-; Only very recently got good at editing GFX.

I learned how to use ESE in less than a day!

But for SMB3 Discombobulator and Lunar Magic, it took me about two weeks.

Everything looks hard to begin with. Start small... Youll be surprised how user-friendly everything is

I worked off and on for about a month before I got pretty much everything standard down. Maybe another month after that for all the extra stuff, such as extra graphics, ripping, and what have you. Hacking shouldn't be something you do if you're not willing to invest some time.
This is a long thread. Click here to view it.
