I think the top one looks the best... all smooth and shiny like candy should be... but the bottom one is good too. Middle one is just... bleh

I'd say the first one! The second is just too weird, and the third one is way too "black lined".

I wonder how you hand-made all these graphics....just SO GOOD!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! *dies of heart attack*

*hits self* I can't believe I didn't notice this... You make no usage of slanted pieces, except for the occasional steep, 45 degree angle slope. You need to fix that

I like the top one. Somehow though, it seems too good for the ground above it. *shrugs*

I'm looking for opinions on which of the following styles of changes for the overworld graphics is the best. I added a tad bit of shading to the cliff sides, to keep the style consistent and also smoothed up some corners a little bit. The only problem is that I can't decide how to segment the different sections. Look over the 3 styles below and tell me which one you think the best is.

If you have an alternative, do not hesitate to let me know.

First of all, your graphics look awsome. You drew them? And your oil set is very cool, but i can't seem to get it into my game (I have already asked about this in the top sticked thread). And is the filter making the graphics all rounded? If thats not what the fliter is doing, and your graphics look like that normally, wow. Good job can't wait for the demo.

I suggest you make the sprite palette more intensive to fit into the whole candyish graphic theme. Also adapt the "MARIO" stuff at the top left and the red star more 3d-ish. And please, drop 2xsal, it looks dreadful. Try supereagle instead (that's what I usa).

Like I said, using filters is not something I generally like for screenshots, but if mostly everyone wants them and it doesn't hurt to use them, I might as well. And now I've switched to 2xSai, by popular demand.

As you can see, I've started work on the sprites. I don't expect that I will heavily edit them, and I probably won't change them much more than what you see now. I decided to change the sprites to a more "cartoon-y" look by removing most interior black lines and adding those same black lines to the outside. I think it works well, but comments are always appreciated.

I don't like that filter... things just looks so odd with it. And I like seeing the pixels...

But I like the graphics, even if it's quite simple on some places.

Not to nitpick, but I believe the term is 'make due'. As in, to MAKE it by yourself until payment is DUE. As for why I didn't PM this, well, so everyone reading this knows too. Of course, if I'm wrong as to the origin of the phrase, PM me and I'll delete this post

I plan to release ALL of my sets when my hack is finished, but not a moment before. All you who want to use my work in their own hacks will have to make do with the two sets I've already released.

I think you should release your candy set. Although if you want to keep it to yourself, I understand.

I don't understand the obsession with filters. If anything they deemphasize care for graphic detail. Pixelation is fine in my book as long as it isn't gaudy looking.

Blisseh: I personally think only a couple of letters look wonky (namely the 2 and 5), and work is being done on them to fix them. Expect improvements sometime in the future.

Fyxe: Don't worry, the background was next on my list. I haven't been happy with it for a while, but put on hold in favor of other work. And yes, the graphics are simple, cuz hey, they were my first major work. The oil and winter tilesets are both a lot more complicated, and the overall quality didn't change because of it, so simple is not all I can do. PS: 2xSai used to be my favorite, but I don't like how it make some things look fuzzy. It's really noticeable on the status bar. HQ2X is a lot crisper, which is what I like.

Everyone else: Thank you! Your praise means a lot to me, really it does. I just hope you aren't disappointed when my next demo is released. I was toying with the idea of releasing a demo with all the graphical overhauls, but there really isn't a point when the levels aren't changing.

Don't complain too much about the filter. It's not my favourite filter (2xSai is my favourite), but at least it's better than the pixelatedness of the old pictures. I'm glad you took my suggestion on board, JJ. I can now see your graphics for how they really should be seen. ^-^ Except, that filter makes the lollypops look a little weird at points. Not sure if that's just the filter or something that could be fixed by moving a few pixels around.

It's looking very nice. I won't go as far as another poster and say you're the greatest graphics hacker there is. O.o'' Because, and I mean no offense to you at all; your graphical style does edge on the simple side. I know the graphics in later stages get more fancy, but you do use simple patterns. Not saying I could do any better or anything, either. ^-^ Whatever, it works!!

It's nice to see that you're refining everything so it looks good all over. All the changes you have made are definitely for the positive.

I would suggest you do something about the background, though. I think my problem with it lies in the red 'squares'. I'm not sure if you notice, but they look like they're floating. In fact, the hills look a tad like they're floating. Try and change the pallette and make the tiles on the ground darker, see if that makes it look more 'solid', K? And, yeah, those red squares definitely look floaty.

Nicely done. My only complaint lies with the font you used on the numbers; I don't like it, it just looks... poor. My only OTHER complaint deals with the filter you used, but hey, it's just a filter, and has no effect on gameplay, and I can pick a different one when I play it. And I will play it; Everything looks great.
