Ah, I understand .

As long as freshman and JV teams have been mentioned: does it seem right to anybody that, if a JV team's starting lineup (in any sport but, for this example, baseball) would be mainly freshmen, the JV and freshman teams should play with identical or near-identical starters for every game?

Let me explain more clearly. I played baseball as a freshman, and the freshman coach also coached the junior varsity team. As it turned out, most of the better players between the two teams happened to be freshmen, even though sophomores and juniors were also on the JV team.

Instead of allowing all freshmen to be exclusively freshman players and allowing all others to be JV players, the coach decided that winning was more important; he played near-identical lineups for both teams, meaning that the same freshmen made up the entirety of the freshman team's starting lineup as well as a great majority of the JV team's starting lineup. Sophomores and juniors that truly had no chance of making varsity but might have played on a JV team were forced to sit, while "outstanding" freshmen played twice the number of games than they otherwise might have.

It irked me a lot, and I decided not to join again as a sophomore. It's a shame that having dominant freshman and JV teams is so important...in fact, it's a bit ridiculous. The purpose of non-varsity squads is to support and encourage potential future contributors to a varsity lineup, no?

Well my friend and I wanted to both play and he said that we couldn't be in because of something like that. It kind of confused me why the coach didn't let us play. They couldn't let us in JV since it was full and they didn't have enough just to make a Freshman team. Thaaat's what it was. I got all the different teams confused Still, some of the people didn't have the right grades so they couldn't play. I had good enough grades though so that's why a Freshman team couldn't be put together.

Umm..I got halfway to getting on the Soccer team but then they said that they didn't have enough room or something..no they didn't have enough players for a junior varsity so we couldn't play. That's as far as I went but that was in Freshman year . I ws going to try out for Softball or tennis but I didn't get a chance to. I'll try out for Softball maybe next year..I always say that but I don't..

Well, we don't have High School sports in this country, people play sports in clubs outside of High School. Anyway, for years I played (Association) Football, I was a goalkeeper for many years, and a fairly good one (for being as young as I was, anyway). Then I quit that, and became a defender, mostly playing left back, which was fun. I eventually quit football because I wasn't good enough, but I still love the sport with all my heart (anyone who doesn't love it has lost a little part of what you have to be to be a true human being ). I went on to play volleyball for some years, and did fairly good, but I eventually quit it this winter, even though I still like it. Now, I might actually start playing rugby, my friend brought me to one practice in the neighbour-city (we don't have a team here, my friend wants to start a team, though), and it was pretty fun. I also played golf for a year, when I was in High School the states (so, technically, golf is the only High School-sport I've ever done).

I play for the varsity football team. I was a captain this year and will be next year, but next year will be my last. I also shoot discus and shotput for track and field. I wrestle from time to time but I didnt do any this year.

I was on the swim team for two years and water polo for one. We weren't that good of a team, but we had fun and did the best that we could.

Back in middle school, I tried out for basketball, but it was during a time when my asthma was really bad, so I really couldn't keep up.

Played soccer (striker), basketball(centre) and track/field in high school days. Now about to finish uni and playing Australian Rules Footy for my old high school. Mainly in a defensive position.

Well, back in the day for me is about 2-4 years ago

But you have to remember, this is Rhode Island, the smallest state in the US.

Either way, I played for the town team since I was 10, and when I was 11 I started as a keeper. I was ok a first, but once I figured out what to do, it went from there. I was the first player taken in the draft for the rec league, my team went to the states, and 2 years ago, my team won the Competitive division.

Well, I still run cross country in the fall. Have been on varsity two years for that. Surprisingly, I was on varsity track for 2 mile first year, but this last year... I didn't try out. :\

Yea.... so I'll be ready for Cross Country next year... hopefully... and I'll be the manager for my dad's bball team... yea...

Soccer :\ personaly I am not a big fan of soccer I plan old just don't get why the europeans die literaly over it. I mean its not as fun to such as baseball or some good old football. But that is just me. The school I got to, Northview, had a crappy record last year. I belive it was 2-12 last year but southview was un-beatable over last year with 14-0 in regular session. and wen't in with 1 win in states. Im trying to get our school to better this year.

Best in the state? Very impressive . Why'd ya quit?

Regarding those dribbling, crappy shots that always find their way into the net - annoying as hell, no? The fact that the keeper's box is often one of the most unkempt areas of the field usually aids in weird and unexpected bounces. Very irritating.

Edit: Back in the day, Toxic? Your profile lists you as 15 years old . But seriously, tell me more about it .

Back in the day, I was the best keeper in the state.

The part I hate the most, is when you have a ball that you know you can, and should have gotten, but it scores anyways...I hate those so much. Like balls to the side of me, I know I can get them, but they take a lame bounce and go in.

Hah, yeah, I'd like to think of myself as such. My leaping and diving abilities leave something to be desired, so it's one of my few remaining options .

Our team is terrible. I've actually had 30+ save games. Too bad we still end up losing by six or more goals...

That's pretty sweet. Are you the fearless type that charges out on a whim to take out the charging striker? (That's me )

Really, intelligence and athleticism are not mutually exclusive as many people believe them to be. Even the "nerds" can often excel at tennis, track, or even soccer and the like.

I play varsity (American) football as of next year. I play tight end, but I won't get to catch many passes, as we play mostly the ol "pound the shit out of the ball via running it every play save 2."

If I was to try out for soccer, I would make starting goalie, but football is in the way of that
